‘Vertically stacked’ beach houses celebrate organic coastal landscapes Gold Coast / Australia
The Beach House development, designed by bureau^proberts, comprises 12 whole-floor apartments at a prime beach-side Gold Coast location.
The residences, by developer Andrews Projects, are conceived as ‘vertically stacked beach houses’, delivering unrivalled views and amenity, while acknowledging Broadbeach’s evolving urban fabric.
The design is influenced by the Gold Coast’s beach house architecture – characterised by broad verandas, open breezeways, and a connection to the outdoor environment.
bureau^proberts Partner and Project Design Director Kelly Geldard says the design takes its cues from its landscape and surroundings with the beach a mere few steps from the lobby.
“We sought to create a series of beach houses that made the most of the aspect and location.
“The generosity of spaces speaks to that – each apartment provides the same exclusivity and amenity that a beach house would.
“The curvilinear building form is an abstraction of the sweeping Gold Coast coastline and allows spaces to project forward for views and retreat for privacy.”
The site’s orientation drove the design, which takes advantage of its aspect to provide generous and highly functional floor plans that maximise views from every angle.
Living spaces extend out to the north-eastern corner, framing expansive views to the beach and ocean, while master suites stretch along the northern edge to capture natural light and ocean vistas. Floor to ceiling double-glazed windows provide luminosity throughout the day and allow light to stream in from every angle, whilst exterior screens deliver privacy to the bathrooms.
The organic shape of the building’s exterior carries through to the purposefully minimal interiors. A restrained material palette of natural travertine paired with blonde timber evokes the pale sands of the beach below and allows the dramatic views to take centre stage.
The roof terrace is conceived as a private retreat, with an infinity edge pool, gym, spa and sauna, all with 360 degree views of the Gold Coast skyline.
The project is the latest in bureau^proberts’ 15-year evolution of the whole-floor apartment model, which includes 77 Jefferson at Palm Beach and NORTH Residences at Burleigh.
