Renovation of a public park in San Martino di Castrozza San Martino di Castrozza / Italy / 2019
Plank park is a narrow green strip, overlooking the picturesque lake of the same name which borders the town of San Martino di Castrozza. Its position and its morphology make it the natural threshold between the woods that descend from the slopes of Colfosco and the lively chaos of the town, a place dedicated to transit, leisure but also contemplation of the landscape.
The redevelopment project, through few but evident signs, enhances the dual nature of this space starting from the critical element of the margin. Along the entire development of the park, four linear structures in Corten steel redesign the context of the crowded road in front, giving formal unity and visual order through material and chromatic contrast that recalls the porphyry massifs of the Lagorai chain which rises in the background. The entrances to the park therefore become three-dimensional passages, created by separating the metal structures through simple but recognizable geometries, which lead the visitor's eye towards the surprise of different views of the body of water. From inside the park, however, the structures are almost imperceptible, and appear as green ramps which harmoniously direct the visitor's gaze towards the surrounding Dolomite peaks, excluding the passage and parking of cars from view.
