Calais Street | Paolo Cossu Architects
City of London / United Kingdom / 2013
12 Calais Street is a three storey Victorian ter- raced house in Southwark that faces Myatt’s Fields Park. The property is within the Minet Es- tate Conservation Area in the London Borough of Lambeth.
Conceived as the intersection of two cubes, one glass and one basalt, the new extension projects out over the grass. The frameless bay window provides a generous visual connection to the garden. A sliding door in the side of the extension provides access to a promenade raised above the lawn.
Internally the walnut panelling wraps the walls of the extension concealing storage and an existing fireplace, forming a datum that steps down towards the daybed and garden.
