MAKHNO Studio has completed the transformation of the NARODNYI DIM space in Kyiv. The project preserves respect for Ukrainian traditions while blending them with modern design solutions. The newly redesigned interior has become not only a functional retail space, but also an art space that reflects contemporary Ukrainian identity.

THE CHALLENGE

The challenge was to create a space that is convenient for customers and transforms into an art space, emphasizing modern Ukrainian identity through a fusion of tradition and contemporary design.

STYLE AND CONCEPT

The new design embodies the concept of the "New Ukrainian Style." It combines natural materials, whitewashed walls, old wooden structures, and modern functional minimalism. The space, where art pieces are displayed, becomes part of the art itself, creating a fitting atmosphere for visitors — not distracting from the products but enhancing them.

FUNCTIONALITY

One key task was creating a convenient and functional retail space. MAKHNO Studio's designers developed a special zoning system, allowing customers to easily navigate the wide range of product categories. Each category received its unique design: wooden shelves for books, metal surfaces for ceramics, aesthetic rails for clothing, and perforated walls for icons.

FITTING AREA

The central part of the space is the fitting room, which can easily transform into an open space or be divided into several cabins as needed. A special feature is a large mirror surrounded by an art wall made of QUADROPOD blocks, which recently won the prestigious Red Dot Award.

“Our renovated space has become a place where modern ideas and folk traditions are combined. Moreover, it is a place where traditions become a trend!” - the management of the Narodnyi Dim.
