G & S Apartment | Moca Arquitetura
Curitiba / Brazil / 2023
The challenge: to create an integrated, functional space, full of personality. The new project by the Curitiba-based architecture firm shows that it’s possible to blend the warmth and natural elements of Brazil with the creative aesthetic of the couple Gabriela Zukeram and Stefano Mascarello.
For this project, the partners at Moca Arquitetura preserved the apartment’s key features: hardwood flooring and neutral walls. The highlights are the marble finishes, used on both the shelves and baseboards, and the furniture, which introduces natural elements into the design, such as woven cane backrests and seats made from braided kraft paper cord.
The space also reflects the couple’s passion for art. Gabriela is a content creator and one of the minds behind Two Lost Kids, an audiovisual project that brings a playful, irreverent, and nostalgic aesthetic producing videos for major brands like Google and Adidas. Stefano, on the other hand, is Italian, a fan of Brazilian culture, and a collector of art pieces created by young artists from Paraná, the southern Brazilian state where Gabriela was born.
“It couldn’t be as intense as the characteristic look of Two Lost Kids, but it was important that both their personalities were expressed in the design. Our idea was to highlight Brazilian culture, bring in that warmth, while always maintaining balance and restraint in the choice of colors and objects,” explain architects Katia Azevedo and Ana Sikorski.
The kitchen is one of the spaces that successfully blends these styles and preferences. While maintaining the same neutrality as the rest of the apartment, the space adds a fun and vibrant touch with the choice of tiles for the floor and the orange breeze blocks, known as cobogó. In contrast, stainless steel countertops were used, ideal for making daily life in the kitchen practical and enjoyable.
Another interesting detail in this project is the subtle division of spaces, achieved through the furniture itself. This approach kept the apartment airy and the spaces integrated, without compromising flow and circulation. The finishing touch came from personal items and pieces of art, which helped turn the design into a home.
