Surrounded by steep, forested slopes and the imposing mountain peaks of South Tyrol's Ahrntal valley, the "Eggemair" farmstead is situated on a gentle hillside in the mountain village of Mühlwald. At the former site of the old, no longer functioning mill with a farm workshop, the "Haus Eggemoa" was created as a new home for the young farming family, drawing on the typology of the previous structures. Embedded in the landscape, the appearance of the building reflects a strong affinity with the simple, agricultural building typology of the valley’s mills. The characteristics of the historic mills, such as log construction on a solid natural stone base, are translated into a contemporary design. Key elements of the facade were reimagined in harmony with the existing structure and implemented in a clean, linear manner: a massive wooden structure sits on a sandblasted concrete base, with the ridge of the roof sloping gently towards the valley, blending harmoniously into the surrounding mountain landscape. The untreated larch wood facade is structured by vertical and horizontal wooden elements of varying depth. A defining feature is the south-facing, wood-framed balcony bay window. On the west side, running along the slope, a roof and the ground level below it complement the residential building in a simple manner. The choice of scale, materials, and natural integration into the terrain creates a frugal appearance befitting the location. Naturalness as an expectation, locality as a prerequisite, and sustainability as the goal—these principles are reflected in the chosen construction method. The base is made of exposed concrete with local aggregates, and the wooden structure consists of thick, untreated wooden walls that eliminate the need for insulation. The timber used was sourced entirely from the farm's own forest and processed into solid wood panels with their own certification. All exterior finishes are crafted in larch wood. Simple metal railings and a roof covered in grey metal sheets subtly complement the building’s decoded facade. Due to the challenging topography, access is provided from the north side, from the existing access road, via a short footbridge with parking and a covered area. From here, one enters the entrance level on the top floor. A small entrance area leads to an open, sunlit corridor with an adjoining internal staircase that connects all levels inside the building. Flowing around this are the spacious living area with a stove, as well as the kitchen with a utility room, storage room, and a guest WC. The full opening of the living area towards the roof creates a generous sense of space. The centrally positioned wood stove serves as a simple dividing element, with the kitchen discreetly and openly arranged behind it. Large openings frame vigilant views of the surrounding mountain landscape. The private areas are located in the lower floor: three bedrooms with a bathroom are situated here. A direct and elegant passage connects the living areas with the outdoor green space on the same level. From the master bedroom, a hidden corridor with a dressing room leads to the weather-protected outdoor extension that is nestled into the hillside. A workshop with adjacent storage rooms completes the appropriate spatial offering on the second basement level. From here, a discreet path leads directly to the barn and the agricultural buildings below. Inside, the prominent materiality fully reflects the chosen construction method. Floors, furniture, and walls are almost entirely made of solid larch wood or exposed concrete. The interior walls structure the rooms, just as the chosen furnishings do, adding a harmonious touch to the unified overall aesthetic.

Circondato da ripidi pendii boscosi e dalle imponenti vette della Valle Aurina altoate, il maso “Eggemair” è situato su un lieve pendio nel paese montano di Selva dei Molini. Sul sito del vecchio mulino e dell'officina agricola non più funzionanti, la “Casa Eggemoa” è stata costruita, con riferimento tipologico a questo edificio, come nuova abitazione per la giovane famiglia del maso. L'aspetto complessivo dell'edificio, inserito nel paesaggio, presenta un'elevata affinità con la tipologia costruttiva semplice dei mulini della valle. Le caratteristiche della costruzione "Blockbau" su una solida base di pietra naturale dei mulini storici sono tradotte in uno stile contemporaneo. Gli elementi principali della facciata sono stati ripensati in conformità al contesto esistente e realizzati seguendo una logica chiara: una solida struttura in legno con un colmo rivolto verso la valle, posta su una base di cemento faccia a vista sabbiato, è integrata con tatto nel paesaggio montano circostante. Elementi verticali e orizzontali in legno, di profondità diversa, strutturano la facciata in legno naturale realizzata in larice. L` erker del balcone, esposta a sud e incorniciata in legno, è un elemento caratterizzante. Sul lato ovest, una tettoia che corre lungo il pendio e un'area coperta sottostante completano semplicemente l'edificio residenziale. La dimensione scelta, la materialità e l'integrazione naturale nel contesto esistente creano un aspetto frugale che rende conto del luogo in cui si trova. La naturalità come aspettativa, la località come prerequisito e la sostenibilità come obiettivo: queste idee di base si riflettono nel metodo di costruzione scelto. La base è realizzata in calcestruzzo a faccia vista con aggregati locali, mentre la costruzione in legno consiste in una solida e robusta parete in legno lasciata a vista e che rinuncia sistematicamente a qualsiasi coibentazione termica. Il legname utilizzato è stato ricavato interamente dal bosco del maso chiuso e lavorato in pannelli di legno massiccio con apposito certificato energetico. Tutte le finiture esterne sono in legno di larice. Le ringhiere in metallo e il tetto rivestito in lamiera grigia completano con discrezione la facciata decodificata. A seguito della topografia impegnativa, l'accesso avviene sul lato nord, dalla strada di accesso esistente, attraverso una breve passerella con parcheggio e tettoia. Da qui si accede al livello d'ingresso all'ultimo piano. Un piccolo ingresso è seguito da un corridoio aperto e illuminato dal sole con una scala interna che collega tutti i livelli. L'ampio soggiorno con stufa, la cucina con ripostiglio, deposito e WC diurno sono disposti in un ordine fluido. La zona giorno è completamente aperta verso il tetto, creando un generoso senso di spazio. La stufa a legna, posizionata al centro, funge da semplice elemento divisorio. Dietro di essa, la cucina è discreta ma decisamente a pianta aperta. Allo stesso tempo, grandi aperture incorniciano vigorosamente la vista sul paesaggio montano circostante. Le aree private sono collocate nel seminterrato: qui si trovano tre camere da letto con bagno. Un passaggio diretto e caratteristico collega le zone abitative con lo spazio verde esterno allo stesso livello. Dalla camera da letto principale, un corridoio nascosto con spogliatoio conduce all'estensione protetta dalle intemperie, che è incassata nel pendio e conduce all'esterno. Un officina agricola con annessi magazzini completa lo spazio adeguato al secondo piano seminterrato. Da qui, la stalla e gli edifici agricoli sottostanti sono raggiungibili direttamente attraverso un percorso poco appariscente. Anche all'interno la presenza di materiali rispecchia pienamente il metodo costruttivo scelto. Pavimenti, mobili e pareti sono quasi interamente realizzati in legno massiccio di larice o in cemento a vista. Le pareti interne strutturano le stanze così come gli elementi d'arredo selezionati e completano armoniosamente l'aspetto generale uniforme.

Umrahmt von steil bewaldeten Hängen und den imposanten Berggipfeln des Südtiroler Ahrntals liegt die Hofstelle „Eggemair“ in gemächlicher Hanglage im Bergdorf Mühlwald. Am einstigen Platz der alten, nicht mehr funktionsfähigen Mühle mit Hofwerkstatt entstand, in typologischer Anlehnung an diesen früheren Bestand, das „Haus Eggemoa“ als neues Zuhause der jungen Bergbauernfamilie. In die Landschaft eingebettet weist das Erscheinungsbild des Gebäudes in seiner Gesamtcharakteristik eine hohe Affinität zu der einfachen, landwirtschaftlichen Bautypologie der Mühlen des Tales auf. Die Merkmale des Blockbaus auf massivem Natursteinsockel der historischen Mühlen werden zeitgemäß übersetzt. Wesentliche Elemente der Fassade wurden dabei im Einklang mit dem Bestehenden neu gedacht und in klarer Linie umgesetzt: ein auf einem Sockel aus sandgestrahltem Beton aufgesetzter massiver Holzbau mit talwärts gerichtetem First bindet sich dabei taktvoll in die umliegende Berglandschaft ein. In ihrer Tiefe voneinander unterschiedliche, vertikale sowie horizontale Holzelemente gliedern die naturbelassene Holzfassade aus Lärche. Bestimmend ist der südlich ausgerichtete und holzgerahmte Balkonerker. Schlicht ergänzen westseitig dem Hang verlaufend eine Überdachung und ein darunter liegender Grundbereich das Wohnhaus. Durch die gewählte Maßstäblichkeit, Materialität und natürliche Einbindung in das Bestandsgelände, entsteht ein dem Ort gerecht werdendes frugales Erscheinungsbild. Natürlichkeit als Erwartung, Lokalität als Voraussetzung und Nachhaltigkeit als Ziel – diese Grundgedanken spiegeln sich in der gewählten Bauweise wider. Der Sockel besteht aus Sichtbeton mit lokalen Zuschlägen und der Holzbau aus einer massiven in Sicht belassenen, kräftigen Holzwand, welche systemisch auf jegliche Dämmungen verzichtet. Das verarbeitete Holz wurde vollständig aus dem Holzbestand des geschlossenen Hofes gewonnen und zu massiven Holzplatten mit eigenem Zertifikat verarbeitet. Sämtliche Außenabschlüsse sind in Lärchenholz ausgeführt. Geländer aus schlichtem Metall sowie eine mit grauen Blechbahnen eingedeckte Dachfläche ergänzen dezent das dekodierte Fassadenbild. Aufgrund der anspruchsvollen Topografie erfolgt die Erschließung nordseitig, von der bestehenden Zufahrtsstraße aus, über einen kurzen Steg mit Parkraum und Überdachung. Von hier aus gelangt man in die Eingangsebene im Dachgeschoss. Einem kleinen Eingangsbereich schließt sich eine offene, durchsonnte Gangfläche mit anschließender Innentreppe an, welche sämtliche Ebenen im Inneren miteinander verbindet. Reihum ordnen sich fließend der weiträumige Wohnraum mit Ofen sowie die Küche mit Wirtschaftraum, Abstellraum und Tages-WC überschaubar an. Die vollständige Öffnung des Wohnraumes zum Dach hin ermöglicht ein großzügiges Raumempfinden. Der mittig positionierte Holzofen fungiert als schlichtes Trennelement. Unauffällig und doch bestimmend gliedert sich die Küche dahinter offen an. Großflächige Öffnungen rahmen gleichzeitig vigilant die Ausblicke in die umliegende Berglandschaft. Die Privatbereiche befinden sich geschützt im Untergeschoss: drei Schlafzimmer mit Bad sind hier untergebracht. Ein direkter und aparter Durchgang verbindet die Wohnräumlichkeiten mit der auf der gleichen Ebene angeordneten Grünfläche im Außenbereich. Vom Hauptschlafzimmer aus gelangt man über einen versteckten Gang mit Ankleidezimmer in die witterungsgeschützte und in den Hang geschobene Erweiterung des Innenbereichs ins Freie. Eine Hofwerkstatt mit anschließenden Lagerräumen vervollständigt das adäquate Raumangebot im zweiten Untergeschoss. Von hier aus erreicht man über einen unscheinbaren Weg direkt den Stall und die darunterliegenden Wirtschaftsgebäude. Auch im Inneren spiegelt die präsente Materialität die gewählte Bauweise vollinhaltlich wider. Böden, Möbel und Wände sind nahezu vollständig aus massiven Lärchenholz oder Sichtbeton. Dabei gliedern die Innenwände die Räumlichkeiten ebenso wie die gewählten Einrichtungselemente und ergänzen stimmig das einheitliche Gesamtbild.
