The “Pier-Museum” | Marco Bernardini

The idea generated for the “Pier-Museum”, bringing an entry to the city by the sea, is a tilted line. A monolith that connects land and sea, evoking an image of shipwreck and expresses the notion of the arrival on the shores, memories of the tragedies of the exodus of people of all the seas.Shipwrecked from the sea, is a hand, tense, that invites to ascend on board, a strong element of historical testimony of the arrival in the new land .The line unites the two levels, the solid one of the city with the liquid one of the sea, permitting the construction of a building in part raised from the ground, without the use of pillars: a building that holds up on its own. The museum is crossed by two patio's that travel along all of its thickness, symbolically connecting the sea and sky, bringing light to the internal exhibition space, and can crossed on the days of a storm raged sea.The monolith becomes an artificial beach above the water.A museum as an Ark arriving at the coast to guard the memory of the immigrants.
