Alois Jirásek Park | Chmelar architekti
Hronov / Czech Rep. / 2018
The motto was to create a "garden
under the Giant Mountains" as a place of rest and leisure activities for the citizens of the
town (picnics, games, relaxation on the grass, swimming). The functional and spatial
arrangement of the park respects the original green vegetation. The main promenade
starts with the statue of Alois Jirásek, the patron saint of the park, and ends on a
platform with a spring, the symbolic heart of the park. Mineral water from the newly
reconstructed NHr-1a (Regnerka) and Hronovka springs is fed into the stream. The park
is divided into a southern, larger, sunny residential part and a northern, smaller, quiet
representative part. The concept allows for a visual and spatial connection between the
park and the river, removing ruins of old buildings and better routing of park paths. The
basic skeleton of the park consists of walkways - a circular promenade and main
passages that divide the park into sectors with different functions (recreation, culture,
representation, activities). The main route connects the city center with the surrounding
districts of Zbečník and Velký Dřevíč and connects to the footbridge over the Metuje
River. The new entrance to the park from Jiráskova Street will relieve the area in front of
the Alois Jirásek House during visits of larger groups of tourists. The greenery has also
been restored, where the original lawn and tall trees have been supplemented with
flowering shrubs and perennials. New trees were planted with a vision of long-term
growth and replacement of the current mature trees. The plant range was selected
according to the local species composition of the surrounding landscape.
