Palazzo Edmondo, a 16th-century architectural jewel located in the heart of Monteroni di Lecce, Puglia, is a remarkable example of historical preservation and architectural excellence. The palazzo's recent three-year restoration was meticulously executed under the direction of architect Luca Baldazzi. What was once an abandoned structure on the brink of collapse has been transformed into an elegant, living masterpiece that respects its rich heritage while incorporating modern amenities for a luxurious guest experience.

The restoration was not just about repair but about breathing life into the architectural history of the palazzo. From the outset, Baldazzi aimed to retain the palazzo’s original character, preserving its defining features such as 7-meter-high star-vaulted ceilings, original “cocciopesto” and cementine flooring, and 17th-century hand-carved wooden doors. These key elements were carefully restored to their former glory using traditional techniques and materials, allowing the building’s historical authenticity to shine through. Every intervention was designed to preserve the historical narrative of the building while subtly enhancing its functionality and aesthetics for contemporary living.

The garden at Palazzo Edmondo is a natural extension of the architectural experience, designed with the same attention to historical detail that defines the building. Enclosed by ancient walls, the garden was envisioned by RSL Landscape Architecture, drawing inspiration from the Roman frescoes of Villa Livia. The design focuses on creating a timeless space by incorporating native and historical plant species that have been present in the region for centuries. This thoughtfully curated garden, framed by time-worn colonnades and pergolas, features a tranquil pool and shaded areas beneath fruit-laden trees, providing a serene retreat that complements the elegance of the palazzo’s interiors.

The restoration of Palazzo Edmondo reflects a deep respect for Italian heritage and architecture. Every detail, from the hand-restored flooring to the use of original building techniques, showcases a commitment to authenticity. This project stands as a celebration of Puglia’s architectural legacy, creating a bridge between the region’s past and future.
