Pool House | Ben Hudson Architects
Queenstown / New Zealand
Nestled in the grounds of a family home near the confluence of the Shotover and Kawarau rivers in New Zealand's South Island, this project creates a seamless blend of outdoor entertaining/ dining areas, a spa, swimming pool, and pool house.
Designed as a minimalist garden pavilion, the architecture emphasizes simplicity in form and finish while showcasing meticulous attention to detail. A stepping-stone pathway leads through the landscape to a new steel pergola, which will gradually provide leafy shade and dappled light for alfresco dining during warmer months.
Constructed from local stone, concrete, and black steel, accented with timber, a nearby outdoor room has been crafted for summer barbecues or cozy evenings around a covered fire during winter nights.
Central to the design is a new swimming pool, harmoniously integrating sun, shade, and water against a stunning mountain backdrop. The various outdoor spaces feel spontaneous and inviting, with an architecture that encourages a relaxed pace. Whether enjoying a refreshing swim or gathering with family around the pool, this collection of spaces fosters a sense of vacation right at home.
