Casa Wabi-Sabi | Apricot Design

A 1960s apartment in the heart of Reggio Emilia completely abandons its old spatial organization, transforming into a spacious open plan that makes room for light and airiness. The former living room, dining room, and entrance hall merge into a single large living area, accessible through three tall portals.

The original herringbone parquet flooring, green Alpi and red Verona marble terrazzo preserve the apartment's historical identity, while polished brass sheets are used to stitch these surfaces together, recalling the principles of wabi-sabi aesthetics and the ancient Japanese art of kintsugi.

The light from the living room also floods the spaces of the habitable kitchen, completely renovated, thanks to a large custom-made sliding glass door and the night area hallway where, once again, every door has been removed to increase the open space and the permeation of light where there were once blind rooms.

Iconic pieces from the history of Italian design and custom-made furnishings such as the free-standing bookcase in the entrance hall and the capacious sideboard in the living room complete the soul of the house, recalling the creative and youthful spirit of its inhabitants.
