ECEPDI - East China Electronic Power Design Institute | Archea Associati

The construction of the new Shanghai headquarters of the East China Electronic Power Design Institute started in January 2021. The building, designed by Archea Associati with the structural support of ECADI - East China Architectural Design & Research Institute, was created with the aim of renewing the existing urban fabric.
The project aims to integrate the various functions within a single block in which all functional requirements are centralised, making the project more economical and efficient. The intervention sought to respect the existing scene and respond to the characteristics of the site, taking into account the urban landscape and general planning requirements, as well as the desire to make the building a landmark for the company itself.
The building faces two main roads in Shanghai city: Wuning Road to the east and Zhongshan North Road (Inner Ring Elevated) to the south, a location that gives it the potential to become a city landmark. The project maintains two entrances on Wuning Road used one as the main entrance and the other as a secondary entrance for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
A distinguishing element of the entire building is a long corten ramp (1 km) positioned in the west facade that forms an access path to the various floors, while two ramps to the west and southeast lead to the underground garages.
The building has sixteen above-ground levels covering 50,000 square meters and two basement floors of 25,000 square meters for a total of 75,000 square meters.
The first floors house multiple functions: reception, meeting rooms, exhibition area, gymnasium, conference room, archive. The intermediate floors are open spaces for work areas, while the top floors are used for executive offices and meeting rooms. The roof, on the other hand, has a more recreational function thanks to the presence of a small bar and a garden.

La costruzione della nuova sede di Shanghai dell’East China Electronic Power Design Institute ha preso il via nel gennaio del 2021. L’edificio, progettato dallo studio Archea Associati con il supporto per la parte strutturale di ECADI - East China Architectural Design & Research Institute è nato con l’obiettivo di rinnovare il preesistente tessuto urbano.
Il progetto mira a integrare le varie funzioni all’interno di un unico blocco in cui tutte le esigenze funzionali sono centralizzate, rendendo il progetto più economico ed efficiente. L’intervento ha voluto rispettare la scena esistente e rispondere alle caratteristiche del sito, tenendo conto del paesaggio urbano e dei requisiti di pianificazione generale, nonché della volontà di rendere l’edificio un landmark dell’azienda stessa.
L’immobile si affaccia su due strade principali della città di Shanghai: Wuning Road a est e Zhongshan North Road (Inner Ring Elevated) a sud, posizione che gli conferisce il potenziale per diventare un punto di riferimento cittadino. Il progetto mantiene due ingressi su Wuning Road utilizzati uno come accesso principale e l’altro come entrata secondaria per il traffico veicolare e pedonale.
Elemento caratterizzante dell’intero edificio è una lunga rampa (1 km) in corten posizionata nella facciata ovest che costituisce un percorso di accesso ai vari piani, mentre due rampe a ovest e sud-est conducono ai garage sotterranei.
L’edificio si sviluppa su sedici livelli fuori terra per una superficie di 50.000 mq e due piani interrati di 25.000 mq per un totale di 75.000 metri quadrati.
I primi piani ospitano molteplici funzioni: reception, sale riunioni, area espositiva, palestra, sala conferenze, archivio. I piani intermedi sono open space destinati ad aree di lavoro, mentre gli ultimi piani sono adibiti a uffici direzionali e sale riunioni. Il tetto, invece, ha funzione più ricreativa grazie alla presenza di un piccolo bar e di un giardino.
