CONSULTORIO MÉDICO DE LA ROBLA

The 1,000 useful square meters ground floor health center in La Robla is built around an interior patio. Each of the sides of the square layout serves a different function: administration on the east, doctors’ surgeries on the south, emergency department on the west, and storage on the north. The interior garden patio is the heart of the project, offering light, ventilation, views and, as it connects to the waiting rooms, it offers an open-air space to relax.

The project prioritised the use of natural materials found in the proximity, in order to reduce the carbon footprint as much as possible. Standing out is the facade built with gabions filled with concrete rubble recovered from the demolition of the old coal thermal power plant in La Robla. This recycled material, found near the health center (0Km), offers a significant thermal inertia, apart from  fulfilling an aesthetic and sentimental objective as it recalls the recent history of La Robla’s landscape and its energy transition in a unique facade rooted in the historical events of the territory.

The health center seeks to be an energy-efficient benchmark. Designed from passive and bioclimatic criteria, it forgoes the use of combustion fossils, covering most of its energy requirements via its own production, with the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof.

Inaugurated in 2023, at a cost of 1,000€/m2, it became the second healthcare facility in Spain to be awarded the prestigious PassivHaus energy efficiency certificate.

El consultorio médico de La Robla cuenta con 1.000m2 útiles desarrollados íntegramente en planta baja y organizados en torno a un patio. Su planta cuadrada se organiza con un área funcional diferenciada en cada uno de sus cuatro lados (administración al este, consultas ordinarias al sur, urgencias al oeste y almacenes al norte). En el centro, el patio ajardinado constituye el corazón del proyecto, aportando luz, ventilación, vistas y conectando con las salas de espera como un espacio más de estancia y descanso al aire libre.

El proyecto priorizó la utilización de materiales naturales y de proximidad, reduciendo en lo posible la huella de carbono del edificio. Destaca su fachada, compuesta de gaviones rellenos con los cascotes de hormigón procedentes de la demolición de la chimenea de la antigua central térmica de La Robla. Un material reciclado, de proximidad (km0), que además de aportar una gran inercia térmica cumple un objetivo estético y emocional: alberga la historia reciente del paisaje de La Robla y de su transición energética en una fachada totalmente única y anclada al territorio.

El consultorio busca ser un referente de la eficiencia energética: diseñado con criterios pasivos y bioclimáticos, prescinde, además, completamente del uso de combustibles fósiles y cubre gran parte de la energía necesaria con producción propia, mediante la instalación fotovoltaica situada en la cubierta. Inaugurado en 2023 con un coste final de 1.000€/m2, se convirtió en el segundo edificio sanitario de España en conseguir el prestigioso sello de eficiencia energética Passivhaus.
