Casa Cachagua II | elton_leniz arquitectos

This house shares the same property with a 1960s Elton house. It was a very emotional commission for our office because the architect was Jorge Elton Alamos, the grandfather of our partner Mirene Elton. Both houses are located in the old part of Cachagua, which was also designed by Elton. Characteristic of this development are its winding streets that are still surfaced with crushed gravel, the low and transparent green fences between the houses, and the thatched roofs.

In its genetics, this house maintains the scale of the other buildings of that time. The wooden structure and its cladding remind us of a compact vessel built with precise frames and assembled plank hull. The weight of its materials and the construction craftsmanship translated into contemporary architecture create a connection with the atmosphere that Elton envisioned for this place many years ago.

Esta casa comparte un mismo terreno con una casa Elton de los años sesenta. Fue un encargo muy emocional para nuestra oficina porque el arquitecto fue Jorge Elton Alamos, abuelo de nuestra socia Mirene Elton. Las dos casas se ubican en la parte antigua de Cachagua que también fue diseñada por Elton. Son característicos de este loteo sus calles curvas que aún se mantienen de maicillo, los cercos verdes, bajos y transparentes entre las casas y los techos de coirón.

En su genética esta casa mantiene la escala de las otras construcciones de esa época. La estructura de madera y sus revestimientos nos recuerdan a una embarcación compacta construida con precisas cuadernas y casco de tablas ensambladas. El peso de sus materiales y la artesanía constructiva traducida a una arquitectura contemporánea, generan una relación con la atmósfera que Elton quiso para este lugar hace ya muchos años.
