Living concept: The Honeycomb House exhibits an extremely favorable ratio of living space to floor area. The spatial experience of a honeycomb apartment corresponds to one that is 1.3 times larger. In fact, the usable floor area is even greater because the sloping ceilings can also be mostly utilized. Due to the honeycomb shape, the spatial orientation changes. Instead of being perpendicular to the facade, the main spatial orientation is longitudinal to the facade with significantly broader natural light. As a result, much more storage space can be optimally accommodated along the interior walls. Another advantage is that furnishing is simplified as it merely involves building upon and expanding the existing slopes. Additionally, living "upwards" within the honeycomb offers more possibilities for furnishing and use. The honeycomb has only one staircase, to which all apartments and communal spaces are attached. All residents of the building share a common access and gathering zone that leads directly to the rooftop garden. The honeycombs are modularly constructed, offering a wide range of living combinations. Essentially, MAMAWABE is a large communal living space that combines small individual cells without kitchens, as well as 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-room apartments in a "honeycomb structure". 

Project objective: The Honeycomb House in Riem has demonstrated its suitability for communal living forms. The living spaces not only appear larger and more versatile in use, but they can also be combined in various ways. The elimination of walls and the accessibility via the sloping planes contribute to better economic figures. In the future, honeycombs will be manufactured as prefabricated units that can be utilized by architects and developers.

Wohnform: Das Wabenhaus weist ein extrem günstiges Verhältnis von Wohnfläche zu Geschossfläche auf. Das Raumgefühl einer Wabenwohnung entspricht einer Wohnung, die um das 1,3-fache größer ist. Tatsächlich ist auch die nutzbare Grundfläche größer, weil auch die Schrägen größtenteils mitgenutzt werden können. Durch die Wabenform ändert sich die Raumrichtung. Statt quer zur Fassade ist die hauptsächliche Raumorientierung längs zur Fassade mit einem erheblich breiteren Lichteinfall. Folge davon ist, dass viel 

mehr Stauraum längs an den Innenwänden optimal untergebracht werden kann. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist, dass die Möblierung selbst vereinfacht ist, weil sie die bereits vorhandenen Schrägen lediglich aufbauen und erweitern. Da in der Wabe auch „nach oben“ gewohnt werden kann bieten sich mehr Möglichkeiten der Möblierung und Bespielung. Die Wabe besitzt nur ein Treppenhaus, an dem alle Appartements und Gemeinschaftsräume angegliedert sind. Alle Bewohner:innen des Hauses haben eine gemeinsame Erschließungs- und Begegnungszone, die in einem Zug bis zum Dachgarten führt. Die Waben sind modular aufgebaut und bieten dadurch unterschiedlichste Wohnkombinationen. MAMAWABE ist im Prinzip eine große Wohngemeinschaft, die kleine Einzelzellen ohne Küche, wie auch 1-, 2-, 3- und 4-Zimmer-Appartements in einem „Wabenstock“, vereint. 

Projektziel: Das Wabenhaus in Riem hat gezeigt, dass es sich sehr gut für gemeinschaftliche Wohnformen eignet. Die Wohnräume wirken nicht nur größer und vielfältiger nutzbar, sie können auch auf unterschiedlichste Weise kombiniert werden. Der Wegfall der Wände und die Erschließungsmöglichkeiten über die schiefen Ebenen sorgen für bessere wirtschaftliche Zahlen. In Zukunft werden die Waben als Lieferprodukt gefertigt, die von Architekt:innen und Bauträger:innen eingesetzt werden können.
