Moura Apartment | GurgelD’alfonso

London-based brazilian fashion designer Pedro Trindade, whose family has a longtime relationship with architect Rogerio Gurgel, commissioned the architecture office Gurgel D`Alfonso for his São Paulo apartment.

The client's brief was that of a clean, inspirational ambiance, that would create a feeling of serenity apart from the busy neighborhood of Pinheiros, and that would serve as an elevated background for the few strong materials and selected furniture used in the project.

The apartment is located in a small-scale 1950s modernist building, therefore the aim of the project was to peel the apartment off unnecessary elements, profiting from the exposed roof of the building's last floor. The vintage furniture selected dates from the same period of production and relates to the few and precise decisions in terms of space construction.

The idea of blurring the limits between social and private areas, manifested here by the construction of the mirror box that encloses the bedroom compound, creating new perspectives and showcasing the crude plasticity of the apartment. It works as a secret passage to a new ambiance filled with a rich terracota materiality.

The balance between the raw elements with the apartment's simple materiality, and the precise selection of furniture and art pieces, creating an unique and timeless appeal to the space, as a result of the office's vision for architecture.
