Style of the home

Numerous homes in the vicinity are currently undergoing revitalization to elevate the villas to a modern luxury standard. This house was originally built in 2006 and the exterior features a Mediterranean style with many classical embellishments.

Modernizing the villa

Tasked with modernizing the villa's interiors and façade, the design brief called for a harmonious blend of contemporary aesthetics within the context of its Mediterranean architecture. Balancing classic architectural elements, the goal was to seamlessly integrate opportunities for contemporary flair and furnishings.

The team took inspiration from European homes that blended classic elements with contemporary designs.

“Having collaborated on their 2017 home, we cherished delving into their lifestyles for design inspiration. Despite its outdated design, we embraced classical elements, playing with colors, balanced proportions, and stylish furnishings to transform it into a modern home”, says Claudia Baliyan, design director and co-founder of Creating Homes.

A contemporary reimagination of classic elements

Embracing the fusion of old and new, the design team leaned into Mediterranean architecture, seamlessly integrating additional arches where the spaces permitted. Revitalizing classic inlay borders, the members of Creating Homes infused a modern touch with high-contrast elements and geometric designs for visual intrigue. Wall moldings were crafted to introduce a classic flair, while furnishings and decorative lighting maintained a sleek, contemporary allure. “Throughout the entire house, classic elements feel contemporary due to the way we have designed them — playing with color, materials, and proportions—and elevating these elements with modern furnishings,” says Claudia Baliyan.

Adding a touch of modernity with ultra-slim black steel arched windows

- “In pursuit of a refreshed classic aesthetic, our initial focus involved crafting arched façade doors and windows with ultra-slim black steel profiles”, explains Claudia Baliyan. These doors and windows are one of the largest design elements of the villa.

Arched doors with profiles this slim are not readily available in this market, even though they are quite common throughout Europe. “We worked with a local steel manufacturer to manufacture several prototypes before settling on the final version,” says Claudia Baliyan. “They are complete with concealed hinges, double glazed performance glass, and are thermally broken for insulation and energy efficiency. These doors and windows have been such a huge success we have used them in several more projects with an even wider range in features and functionality.”

- The entire project, spanning from demolition to delivery, encompassed a six-month timeline, inclusive of all furniture and decorations. Our major hurdle was adhering to the client's request for around 2,000 square feet of extensions and integrating innovative elements within this specified timeframe (i.e. doors and windows)
