LOS HELECHOS | Taller Hector Barroso

Los Helechos is a group of houses designed to allow nature to act in the intimacy of the home to create a silent architecture to accompany the beauty of their gardens. The four houses stealthily adapt to the steep slope of the terrain, respecting the existing topography and vegetation to minimize their impact on the site.The houses look inward through a central courtyard that becomes a space of transition and contemplation –an area between public and private, allowing the entire house to maintain a direct relationship with nature.The communal spaces on the first floor are developed under a wooden roof, entirely open to the outside. In contrast, more private spaces are sheltered within solid volumes with a roof of local earth, seeking the greatest possible privacy. The circulation areas accompany and interrupt the relationship between the two.The garden becomes the heart of the architecture of this complex. Here, the intimacy of the house and the extrovert force of nature operate as a single element, capable of offering peace not only to its users but also to its environment.
