Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vaucluse, France. With its ocean of vines flanked on one side by the ruins of the Papal Palace and on another by Mont Ventoux, the countryside and terroirs of Château de Nalys in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation are exceptional. After 40 years lying dormant, the Guigal family took over Château de Nalys in 2017. Owning a property in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was the dream of three generations. The first few years were dedicated to the vineyards, using their expertise to bring them back to vitality. This was an important step for this family of wine makers who have always attached huge importance to their vineyards as the key component in the making of fine wines. This first step accomplished, they then turned their attention to building a space worthy of the production of wines from the exceptional terroirs of Nalys. This is why the Guigal family approached BAM (Because Architecture Matters), which specialises in organising international architecture competitions, to help them organise a competition for the renovation Château de Nalys.

Un océan de vignes entourées d’une part par les ruines du Château des Papes et d’autre part par le mont Ventoux, le Château de Nalys jouit d’un paysage et d’un terroir d’exception au coeur de l’appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Resté endormi durant les 40 dernières années, le château de Nalys a été repris par la Famille Guigal en 2017 qui réalisait ainsi le rêve de trois générations en devenant propriétaires à Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Les premières années ont été consacrées à l’expertise et à la mise en valeur du vignoble, étape incontournable pour cette famille de vignerons pour laquelle le végétal est primordial à l’obtention de grands vins. Cette première étape passée, il est temps d’avancer et de construire un outil de production à la hauteur des terroirs exceptionnels de Nalys. C’est dans ce contexte que la Famille Guigal a approché l’entreprise BAM - Because Architecture Matters, spécialiste de l’organisation de concours d’architecture afin d’organiser un concours pour la rénovation du Château de Nalys.
