The apartment is located in a brick building from 1983, with a structure of concrete pillars. Quite different from most buildings in its neighborhood (Almagro, Chamberí).

The main spatial value of the house is its street front, since all rooms have at least one large window overlooking the street.

It has about 90m2 of useful surface. Divided into two bedrooms (one of them, the largest, en suite. The other for now serves as an office), two full bathrooms, a laundry area, and a living room-dining room-kitchen area. Also a very nice small terrace, in full contact with an acacia, which we kept open to the outside.

The original distribution, very common in those years, greatly compartmentalized the floorplan, generating corridors and circulations that divided the rooms and dwarfed all surfaces.
We decided to open everything up as much as possible, creating a continuous space from the entrance, and getting rid of certain prejudices such as separating the kitchen from the living areas, or accessing the rooms and bathrooms through a corridor. For apartments with these surfaces, we always prioritize increasing the size of rooms, to the detriment of these hierarchical transitions.

Additionally, given that the building forms the corner of the block, and its bay narrows at that point, some very interesting expansions are generated between the perimeter, which provide personality, and a certain amount of privacy, throughout the entire apartment.
In those areas we have played with mirror doors, modifying the appearance of limits.

It is a simple, unpretentious intervention, with a timeless language, which resolves its organization in the most natural way possible.
By means of a very clear scheme, cross-shaped, the bathroom, living, laundry and bedroom areas are divided into 4 parts.

We use materials that have always been used in the construction of homes in Madrid, and that we believe could be part of any individual's housing ideas.
Best on this premise, the design focuses on resolving details such as the carpentry, the encounters between different materials, or certain volumetric gestures, in a more dramatic or emotional way, distorting and exaggerating the proportions that they would normally have.

A varnished landas pine flooring, which has a very special grain and brings great personality to the space, and aged Ibiza white marble, for the kitchen and bathrooms.

The furniture has a very contemporary aesthetic, mixing different textures.
The dining room table is our own design (BarrioBohrer), which we already built for an apartment that we renovated last year in Los Jerónimos neighbourhood. Now we also sell it, in case anyone might be interested in purchasing it.
The sofa is the In Situ model from Muuto, upholstered with a fabric designed by Raf Simons for Kvadrat. It is the only piece of a stronger color.
The chairs are the Smile model from Andreu World, an excellent Spanish manufacturer, from Valencia. Lighting is done almost entirely through lamps, there are hardly any spotlights: Tolomeo by Artemide, Panthella by Louis Poulsen...
The one in the dining room is the Linier model from Wästberg, a Swedish brand that we love.
Flos's Ariette, on the wall by the dining table, a piece that has always been with me since my childhood!
