Mid-century modern home, built in 1960 (full renovation in 2022), all on one level.
It is located within the Indian Wells Country Club in California (part of greater Palm Springs) and backs onto the golf course.

A Truly California Getaway
This home is a getaway in the desert, which the homeowners – a Canadian couple with three adult children – use frequently to escape the cooler Vancouver weather. The family who owns it loved the liveliness of the town, proximity to friends, and the ability to hike and swim.

“We work on many clients’ vacation homes both near and far, and this was the first opportunity to do a sizable project in the Palm Springs area (California), which was very exciting,” remembers interior designer Stephanie Brown. “The Palm Springs mid-century modern aesthetic and the desert ‘oasis’ of Indian Wells are very inspiring. We wanted to create a dream vacation home.”

Crafting a Soothing and Inviting Atmosphere
The interiors feel warm, calming, and clean. Stephanie Brown opted for soft parchment-tones on the main surfaces (walls, floors, counters), paired with warm walnut and accents of brass. The consistent, muted palette and minimal details create an expansive and quiet feel throughout, while the layered textures offer an inviting warmth.

Inspired by modern architecture in Mexico and Australia
“Discovering similar mid-century interiors boasting an all-neutral palette proved to be an exciting endeavor,” says Stephanie Brown. “At first, I scoured Palm Springs for design inspiration, but the bright colors and kitschy styles didn't align with our vision.” So the team sought inspiration in contemporary design in Mexico and Australia, which feature a beautiful minimal aesthetic that uses monochromatic palettes and simple, natural materials such as textural stone and warm woods.
