Estadio Nacional "Jorge Mágico Gonzalez" | EFFECT ARQUITETURA

The renovation project of the Estadio Nacional Jorge "El Mágico" González in San Salvador, El Salvador was recently completed. This work fully recovered the structure, adapting it to the technical and functional standards required by international federations for contemporary sporting and cultural events.

Our team looked to reverse the state of deterioration of the building, caused by partial renovations and extensions over the decades, which had de-characterized its original proposal. We prioritized environmental sustainability, with the goal of improving the complex's energy and water performance.

On June 23, 2023, the Stadium hosted the opening concert of the Central American and Caribbean Games - San Salvador 2023 and the Athletics competitions of the games.

It was a privilege to have participated in this visionary project that promotes social integration and the development of the Salvadorian community. The Estadio Nacional Jorge "El Mágico" González today is a vibrant space for sports practices and the celebration of cultural events, inspiring generations to achieve their goals.

For the renovation of the Estadio Nacional Jorge "El Mágico" González in San Salvador, our mission was to carry out a comprehensive transformation, updating its infrastructure and offering high-quality services to visitors, authorities, technical committees and athletes. Internally, the stadium has been improved several facilities, providing an exceptional experience for all users of the complex.

The grandstands have been remodelled and equipped with new seats, offering comfort and a privileged view for all spectators. The indoor areas have been renovated and adapted, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. The VIP areas received a new layout and new finishes, adding sophistication to the spaces reserved for special guests and authorities.

In addition, on the first floor of the central body of the Stadium, we have prepared a dynamic and vibrant area where stores are planned and on the upper floor there is a new Museum in honor of the illustrious athlete who gave the stadium its name, Jorge "El Mágico" González, who even received an amazing graffiti of his face on one of the facades of the stadium.

Over the years, the stadium had to adapt to the growing demands for administrative and sports services from INDES (Instituto Nacional de los Deportes de El Salvador). With its original construction dating from 1933 to 1935, it was crucial to ensure that its facilities met the necessary standards to host sporting activities of various modalities, both national and international.

The stadium underwent three renovations in 1960, 2000 and 2002, aiming to accommodate the growing sporting and administrative needs. Today, in addition to its main field, the stadium houses sports federations and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. A special highlight is the Cuna "El Mágico" space, which is used for fast-paced soccer games and hosts tournaments with national and international athletes, including student athletes.
