Community Oasis | Superimpose Architecture

In response to the rising trend of community-centric developments in China, the emergence of community centers or community malls has become a notable phenomenon. These innovative spaces not only encompass the traditional features of a mall but also integrate essential community services such as sports facilities, libraries, and public event spaces. Within this context, Superimpose has proposed an imaginative and transformative design for a newly developed community complex in Nanjing, China, infusing it with a 'Community Oasis' theme.

The heart of this project lies in the creation of a lush and vibrant interior space that transcends the conventional boundaries of community centers. The design seeks to foster spontaneous interactions and inspire visitors to engage with the environment on multiple levels. A key element of this design is the inclusion of six-meter-high stainless steel tree installations strategically placed in the central atrium. These installations serve the dual purpose of introducing a human scale to the voluminous space and acting as a captivating focal point for visitors.

To enhance the visitor experience, the stainless steel tree installations take center stage in an hourly light show, where the atrium lights automatically dim, casting a spotlight on the intricate design of the self-illuminating trees. The choice of stainless steel as a material extends beyond the tree installations, unifying the entire development. Balustrades, lift doors, escalator cladding, and other architectural elements incorporate stainless steel, creating a harmonious and holistic visual identity.

The commitment to a nature-inspired concept extends to the floor patterns - drawn from the natural world - on all levels, reinforcing the 'Community Oasis' theme. Moreover, the ceiling of the atrium is cladded with dented stainless steel panels, strategically positioned to create a scattered reflection of light throughout the space. This design element mimics the dappled sunlight filtering through leaves in a forest, infusing the atrium with a dynamic play of light and shadow.

Superimpose's design for the Nanjing community complex not only represents a harmonious fusion of modern functionality and natural aesthetics but also stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of community-centric architecture in China. Through thoughtful integration of elements inspired by nature, the 'Community Oasis' serves as a transformative space that aims to transcend the conventional boundaries of community centers, offering a dynamic and inviting environment for residents and visitors alike.

Als reactie op de opkomende trend van op de gemeenschap gerichte ontwikkelingen in China is daar de opkomst van gemeenschapscentra of gemeenschapswinkelcentra een opvallend fenomeen geworden. Deze innovatieve ruimtes omvatten niet alleen de traditionele kenmerken van een winkelcentrum, maar integreren ook essentiële gemeenschapsdiensten zoals sportfaciliteiten, bibliotheken en openbare ruimtes voor evenementen. In deze context heeft Superimpose een aansprekend ontwerp gerealiseerd voor een nieuw gemeenschapscomplex in Nanjing, China. Het is een ontwerp waarbij het thema ‘Community Oasis' duidelijk herkenbaar is.

Het hart van dit project ligt in de creatie van een weelderige en levendige binnenruimte die de conventionele grenzen van gemeenschapscentra opzoekt. Het ontwerp beoogt spontane interacties te bevorderen en bezoekers te inspireren om met de omgeving te communiceren. Een sleutelelement in dit ontwerp is de realisatie van zes meter hoge RVS op bomen lijkende creaties, die strategisch geplaatst zijn in het centrale atrium. Deze installaties zijn bedoeld om zowel de menselijke schaal te introduceren in de anders volumineuze ruimte en om te fungeren als boeiend middelpunt voor bezoekers.

De RVS ’boominstallaties’ spelen een belangrijke rol om het gevoel van de bezoekers te optimaliseren. Elk uur is er een lichtshow, waarbij de atrium-verlichting automatisch dimt en een schijnwerper het kenmerkende ontwerp van de bomen uitlicht. De hierbij gemaakte keuze voor RVS als materiaal gaat verder dan de boominstallaties en is bedoeld om zo de hele ontwikkeling visueel te verbinden. Balustrades, liftdeuren, roltrapbekleding en andere architecturale elementen zijn overeenkomstig gematerialiseerd, wat resulteert in een harmonieuze en holistische visuele identiteit.

De toewijding aan een op de natuur geïnspireerd concept strekt zich uit tot de vloerpatronen op alle verdiepingen ter versterking van het thema van de 'Community Oasis’. Bovendien is het plafond van het atrium bekleed met voor-gedeukte RVS panelen om zo een reflectie van licht door de hele ruimte te verspreiden. Dit element bootst het gefilterde zonlicht door bladeren in een bos na en vult het atrium met een dynamisch spel van licht en schaduw.

Het ontwerp van Superimpose voor het gemeenschapscomplex in Nanjing vertegenwoordigt niet alleen een harmonieuze fusie van moderne functionaliteit en natuurlijke esthetiek, maar tracht ook een extra dimensie toe te voegen aan de standaard mall typologie. Door op doordachte manier van door de natuur geïnspireerde elementen te integreren dient de 'Community Oasis' een aantrekkelijke plek voor bezoekers te creëren, die de conventionele grenzen van gemeenschapscentra op zoekt, waarbij een dynamische en uitnodigende omgeving voor zowel bewoners als bezoekers gerealiseerd wordt.
