AutoCamp Joshua Tree was designed to exist in symbiosis with the natural environment of Joshua Tree and provide guests with an authentic desert experience. In addition to protecting and preserving all the Joshua Trees growing on the property during construction, AutoCamp also adopted several other programs that reflect the brand’s ethos for sustainability, including ultra-low use water plants, dark-sky compliant lighting to preserve nighttime stargazing, landscaping featuring native plants and subtle rock formations, and an onsite water treatment system to dramatically reduce the property’s environmental Impact.

Inspired by the golden hues and rough textures of the desert landscape, the Clubhouse interiors provide a seamless connection with the outdoors. Utilizing local artists and fabricators, and considering the area’s rich cultural history, Narrative Design Studio centered the interior composition around original artwork from local artists and custom details including organic sculptural elements to break up the cleaner lines of the surrounding mid-century architecture. Several art installations also encompass the property, including a wall sculpture crafted by local artist Ana DiGiallonardo, and an outdoor mural by Jaque Fragua and Avo designed tapestry hung in the lounge.

"For the interiors, we chose a warm neutral palette and a variety of textures that echo the earthly hues of the desert landscape. We selected handcrafted furniture, pottery, and artwork that celebrates the region made by West Coast artists and fabricators, most of whom have deep connections to Joshua Tree.

The intent was to provide guests with a tranquil, relaxing setting where they will be inspired to explore the unusual beauty of the terrain that awaits them outside the doors," said Shannon Niehenke of Narrative Design Studio.
