In the ancient Roman baths and some public buildings, there was a space known as the Apodyterium, which served as a dressing room. It was a vaulted room where people      undressed and stored their belongings in niches before entering the baths. Sometimes, the only source of light came from small openings in the vault itself. Arab baths later adopted this concept, allowing rainwater to fall directly into the space.

In our case, the annex of a house that previously served only as a storage room aspires to become something further. A Spa is planned that will perform several functions, including a resting area, a bathing area and a sauna.

The location offers privileged views of the rural area of Mallorca and Santa Margalida town, which will add significant value to both the experience and the space itself.

It was decided to give what was previously the only source of light in the Apodyterium a double function: to provide natural lighting and allow the flow of water. The new vault will replace the sloping roof, thus creating a uniform space and highlighting a central eye.

In this way, three different spaces will be organized in the same place: the dressing area, the bath area and the sauna, which will form a temperature gradient experience.

The marble patterns drawn on the floor establish a link with the mosaics that used to adorn the old undressing rooms. The bathtub has been designed as an element that rises from the floor and integrates into the wall, without ceasing to stand out above everything else. Moreover, the recessed wall welcomes you, secures you and gives you a direct view of the outside.

The shower, merged with the skylight, creates a hollow space where the wet elements are the protagonists. Depending on the point of view and in the event that you are on a rainy day, when you open the shower, it will be difficult to discern whether the water is coming from the outside or from the inside.

Both before and after using the shower, we have an adjoining space for dressing and resting. On the other side is the sauna, an enclosed space lined with wood to maintain the high temperatures and which preserves the views to the outside that characterize each area.

En las antiguas termas romanas y algunos edificios públicos, existía un espacio conocido como el Apodyterium, que servía como vestuario. Era una sala abovedada donde las personas se cambiaban y guardaban sus pertenencias en nichos previamente a entrar a las termas. En ocasiones, la única fuente de luz provenía de pequeñas aberturas en la misma bóveda. Los baños árabes más tarde adoptaron este concepto, permitiendo que el agua de lluvia cayera directamente en las fuentes.

En nuestro caso, el anexo de una vivienda que anteriormente servía únicamente como trastero aspira a convertirse en algo más. Se proyecta un Spa que desempeñará varias funciones, incluyendo un área de descanso, una zona de baño y una sauna.

La ubicación ofrece unas vistas privilegiadas de la zona rural de Mallorca y Santa Margalida, lo que añadirá un valor significativo tanto a la experiencia como al espacio en sí.

Se decidió darle a la que antes sería la única fuente de luz del Apodyterium una doble función: proporcionar iluminación natural y permitir el flujo del agua. La nueva bóveda reemplazará la cubierta inclinada, creando así un espacio uniforme y resaltando un óculo central.

De esta manera, se organizarán tres espacios distintos en un mismo lugar: la zona de cambio, el área de baño y la sauna, que formarán un gradiente de temperaturas.

Los patrones que el mármol dibuja en el suelo establecen un vínculo con los mosaicos que solían adornar los antiguos vestuarios. La bañera se ha diseñado como un elemento que se eleva desde el suelo y se integra en la pared, sin dejar de destacar por encima de todo lo demás. De esta forma, el retranqueo te acoge, te asegura y te da una visión directa del exterior.

La ducha, fusionada con el lucernario, crea una franja donde los elementos húmedos son los protagonistas. Dependiendo del punto de vista y en el caso de que se encuentre en un día lluvioso, al abrir la ducha, resultará difícil discernir si el agua está llegando desde el exterior o desde el interior.

Tanto antes como después de usar la ducha, disponemos de un espacio contiguo para vestirse y descansar. Al otro lado se encuentra la sauna, un espacio cerrado revestido de madera para mantener las altas temperaturas y que conserva las vistas al exterior que caracterizan cada zona.
