The Bolshakova`s Home | Architecture

Location: Kyiv, Ukraine
Total area: 350 sq.m
Team: Nataly Bolshakova, Anna Denisenko, Alena Grigorenko

Brief

The client's primary consideration was having ample space, a feature lacking in their city apartments. As this was the family's first country house, the client naturally had many ideas, and the work on this project turned out to be an emotional and exciting process. To maintain a sense of tranquility and harmony with the landscape, the architects resolved this task by integrating the house into the existing terrain.

Challenge

It was important for the team to preserve the landscape of the area and maximize the views from the bedroom windows. We also maintained the lakes and trees on the property. To protect the tree on the porch, the architects integrated it into the roof structure by creating a special opening for the tree crown.

Concept

A country house with a contemporary vision, where maintaining authenticity and integration with the natural surroundings are essential elements of the architectural concept. Plain, clean lines of architecture are combined with natural materials such as wood and stone. The windows are oriented toward the garden, allowing the beauty of the meadows to fill each room with joy.

Realization

The main entrance door leads directly to the first floor, where four bedrooms are located. On the ground floor, there is a common area comprising the kitchen, dining, and living zones. The 'heart of the house' on this level is a cozy fireplace that fulfills the dream of all family members.

The client had always wanted a spacious living room where the family could gather by the fireplace in the evenings. However, the compositional centerpiece of the ground floor is a staircase featuring wooden steps, transparent glass railings, and leather-covered handrails. Each area is meticulously organized according to its function and exudes discreet elegance.
The layout of the house considers the flow of movement for family members, eliminating elements like corridors and narrow passages with limited functionality.
