SALSA APARTMENT

The apartment is located in a building from the 2000s. All finishes have been changed, and electrical and plumbing work has been carried out following the design project. The apartment has an area of 135 square meters and consists of an open space that includes the living room and dining area, a bedroom, an office, a kitchen, two bathrooms, and hallways. A particular feature of this space is its plan symmetry, a characteristic that delighted the owner and played a significant role in the decision to purchase.

The living room is the heart of the home, the dining area and the bedroom are mirror images, as are the kitchen and the office.

Symmetry was incorporated into our design concept, and most of the wall compositions are symmetrical: the fireplace area, the perspective wall from the dining area, the wall with the bed in the bedroom, and the composition behind the office.

The central axis of the apartment offers a beautiful view of the living room as soon as you enter the house. We took advantage of this and created an archway that frames and highlights the main area of the living room.

To balance it and highlight the perspective from the dining area, a second archway appeared, in the form of a 30cm deep niche, decorated with wallpaper featuring botanical motifs (from Rebel Walls).

The same motif appears on the main wall in the bedroom, as well as on the mirrors in the hallway and in the bathroom with a bathtub, both custom-made.

The owner wanted a home that feels like a vacation, with a predominantly boho style, infused with the airy elegance of American transitional design, with discreet elements of brass, a carefully curated collection of decor pieces, and a few key elements that evoke sunny Spain.

The brief was very clear, and that helped. The challenge was to curate all the elements from slightly different stylistic areas and create a new, personalized style in which everything tells a unified story.

The first choices were the finishes: the triple-layered parquet in a rosy hue, decorative azulejo-style ceramic tiles, microcement in the bathrooms, and solid wood interior and exterior carpentry. A finish with a story is the cladding on the fireplace: reclaimed bricks from Transylvania were used, which were cut in half and then painted.

The furniture is designed to be as natural as possible. The dining table and bathroom furniture are made of solid wood, the rugs are made of wool and/or cotton fabric, the armchairs and the bed headboard are made of rattan, the lamps are made of metal and glass. And there are plenty of plants around (from Plantropic).

The office is also used as a dance studio because the owner dances semi-professionally salsa. Hence, the entire wall in this room is covered with mirrors.
