Villas TOH | Eduardo Audirac

Villas TOH is composed of a group of 5 inhabitable units designed to operate as a resting retreat in the southern region of the country; La Veleta in Tulum, Quintana Roo.

The way in which the villas are positioned and set back responds to the terrain's wild vibrations, the preservation of trees, and the soothing sounds of the wind and birds. It's a response to the genius of the place.

A clear sequence and reading of each villa type is the logic of planting, a strategy of repetition as a constant rhythm and pulse for harmony in the emerging neighborhood, multiplying the power of the assembled ensemble.

Each villa's program consists of 320m² of construction and 485m² of surface area for each unit type. This layout includes 4 bedrooms with full bathrooms in a private area and a social area with services at the entrance. A spatial scheme resembling a train carriage, autonomous and distinct from the other 'carriages' or villa types, is the composition axis of the ensemble, forming an efficient modular construction, cross-ventilations, independence, and enhanced livability. "Order, unity, and system."

The experience begins with an open and permeable access plaza, which also serves as open parking. It leads to a long bamboo palapa supported by concrete frames (which structurally define the entire work), organizing a dressing area, a laundry area, an open kitchen, and a living area culminating at the heart of the project, a courtyard framed by the sky through these concrete frames and featuring a water element as the villa's main amenity. Finally, the vertical block of the bedrooms overlooks the water courtyard with symmetrical sliding doors, reminiscent of classical symmetry from another era. An archaic yet contemporary ambiance serves as selection criteria for the essence and aesthetics of the entire ensemble.
