The Malvern House is a blend of old (being heritage) and new (being the extension). The rear is a new building extension so to us  it was crucial it read as new with a beautiful transition between. We wanted to ensure the spaces felt connected by introducing subtle more traditional details that married the existing heritage part of the home to new new rear extension. We did this with a beautiful custom island bench profile, we also carried the same joinery detailing, profiles and materiality throughout the home. We subtly carried some of the new detailing form the modern extension into the heritage part as well (EG The custom steel and marble handles on the hall doors and the brass joinery profiling in the bathroom.) We very deliberately created a transition point within the hallway where we house a set of glazed fresh doors mirrored in scale to the custom rear doors.  The heritage character was our reference and starting point, the design was built on from there. We opted for luxurious material palettes as generally speaking these deliver a much more timeless aesthetic. They are warm and typically created by nature. We love working with timbers and natural grains as well as marble. Each slab of marble is unique and seen as artwork in itself. For example to oversized span of Carrara marble on the rear bench wall provides a practical elements to the kitchen whilst also being quite spectacular to look at.
