Pava Educational Center | Edoardo Milesi & Archos

The project aimed to enhance the excavation and research activities at an important archaeological site, the ancient Pieve of San Pietro in Pava and its cemetery, dating back to the late 5th and early 6th centuries. Consequently, we envisioned the creation of an archaeological and multicultural park around the excavation site, where a single, environmentally low-impact building would serve as a hub for archaeologists, as well as provide educational and visitor-related facilities.

This program has led to the establishment of an archaeological park that seamlessly combines the cultural and natural aspects, emphasizing not only the archaeological elements but also recreating the natural environment in which these ancient relics were originally situated, based on thorough paleobotanical studies.

The archaeologist's residence, constructed entirely from untreated wood, seems to float above the archaeological site, leaving no trace behind. It collects rainwater and harnesses solar energy from its specially designed roof. Situated along the Via Francigena, it also serves as a rest stop for pilgrims, offering indoor restroom facilities and an outdoor water tap.
