Açúcar is the new multi-family housing project in the Beato area, as the conversion of a former workers' village of the company 'Armazéns de Santos Lima & Cª.' 

Regarding the rehabilitation of the existing structures, the aim is to traditionally preserve the facades with a new soft color to harmoniously reintegrate them into this street. By maintaining the relevant elements on the ground floor - arched stonework - and in the roof area - mansard roofs and chimneys, there is an intention to recover the architectural features of the building without altering its original character and the surrounding context.

However, the most significant intervention takes place 'inside the doors,' with a general reorganization of the housing typologies, comprising 37 apartments: 25 one-bedroom units ranging from 45m2 to 75m2, 11 two-bedroom units with 85m2, and 1 three-bedroom unit with 110m2. As a fundamental concept, the 'loft' concept is implemented in various apartments on the first floor, with interrelated areas at different levels through transparent elements or permeable spaces.

This project is also part of a context of urban redevelopment and development in the Beato-Marvila area, along with other residential complexes in adjacent areas, with the valorization of 6 commercial spaces on the ground floor.
