Bijou flat / iridescent flat

Designed for its jewellery designer owner, Oum is a flat that takes the Uchronia collective far from its waves and curves. If the line is once again questioned, it is indeed straight and angled lines that are at stake here. Spaced divided and custom furniture designed as octagons and trapezoids, all inspired by the work of precious stones. A real jewel.

This is 240m2 of chiselled space. Every detail of this Haussmannian interior in the Parisian golden triangle has been thought out, polished and cut. In the dining room, a large organically shaped resin table finished with an oversized malachite motif is divided into seven parts, which can be used alone or assembled. As a wink, the custom designed, beaten steel legs of the piece, take up the principle of the claws holding the diamond of a solitaire to its ring. In the living room, the free-standing faceted sofa by Edra in electric jewel tones appears to be a realisation of the coloured light shards from the stained glass chair. In the metallic and pyramidal alcove, a sculpture by Wendy An- dreu works the octagon, as does the large carpet that responds to it, gradu- ally plunging us into the heart of a diamond. Another classic jewellery shape, the trapezoid, is used for an elegant lacquered television cabinet, crowned in tiny gold balls which are again echoed in the golden ball on the iridescent stepped floor lamp by Kazuhide Takahama.

In the bedroom, a custom designed, fully integrated upholstered bed forms a single unit with the bespoke carpet, inspired by the undulating lines of onyx. The bed’s corners capped by carved alabaster lamps, sit opposite an Ettore Sottsass dressing table in book-matched marquetry, looking more like sculpted stone than wood, one of many interesting furniture encounters that take place here. Other energetic dialogues between vintage classics include the Tongue armchair by Pierre Paulin in the original Jack Lennor Larson fabric picking up the motif in the dining table and the marbled lines in the original Larson velvet cushions, the space-age lines of the folding red plastic egg chair in the bedroom and the crimson planet lamp orbiting over head.

Shades and gradations

If the shapes are reminiscent of the jewellery world, the materials and colours are also borrowed from it. From the large mirror made from leaves of green and blue coloured silver in an octagonal format in the living room to the opal milky blue Murano chandelier, to the multi-hued Glas Italia tables, all reflect- ing and refracting shards of coloured light , like a lustrous gem, for a magical effect. The abstract gradient of the Odd Matter console in dialogue with the gradients in the sheer curtains designed for the space by artist Justin Morin, express intense and poetic shades of colour. Created in collaboration with Atelier Roma, the walls echo them and are also treated - and this is a techni- cal feat - in graduating shades of colour.

Everywhere the tones shimmer, like those of the stained glass window in the kitchen, drawing a chromatic patchwork on the floor when the light rays cross it. If the wave motif has been meandering in Uchronia’s creations until now, in this flat it is the turn of colour and its reflections to shine. Playful and contra- dicting combinations of colour, organic and geometric lines, and a rich com- bination of plush textiles and smooth coloured glass, come together to form a chromatic jewel box filled with gems, With this project, the typical Haussman- nian flat is once again turned upside down by the Uchronia collective. Refined, yet pop, Oum is a relaxed exploration of gemology and jewellery.
