Castro da Costiña | Gramática Arquitectónica

Permaculture begins in the 70s. It is a system of agricultural design principles based on the patterns and characteristics of the natural ecosystem. The word permaculture comes from the English contraction of the words permanent&culture to refer to agriculture as sustainable permanent processes.

We can live without taking photos and uploading them to the network, but we cannot stop eating every day. Agriculture shapes and has shaped our landscapes and societies, and in the case of the Retiro da Costiña project, it shapes how the implementation of the temporary stay modules on the plot has been organized.

We are in Santa Comba, an inland municipality of Galicia with a flat relief and gentle undulations. The extensive cattle pastures are mixed with the eucalyptus monoculture, which surrounds the plot in almost its entire perimeter.

The first instinctive action that was carried out on the plot was to create a small perimeter plant wall, the small border marks a small division of parallel realities.

Outside the green wall, there will be no color changes in the seasons, the eucalyptus is a tree that remains static throughout the year. Within the green wall, reference will be made to the other Galicia of changing colors and seasons, the native deciduous trees, the flowers, the orchards...

The plot was internally organized through circles of different sizes, which generate infinite routes, through which to derive and learn about the cultivation processes of the products that will later be served at the Retiro da Costiña. The straight line is not sought, but the smoothness and the stories that are generated inside and outside each circle. For the buildings, we started from a double premise, on the one hand, they will have a static element at the foot of each one of them. A stone staircase that does not touch the buildings, like a granary or like the stairs attached to a spaceship on earth. On the other hand, the modules will refer to the sky, they settle on the ground but always leaving the wind and the organisms of the plot below.

With the action of separating the modules from the ground, it is possible to interfere less with the natural runoff from the terrain, with a gentle slope that allows views of the valley. The modules are reduced to two plates, slabs or slabs whose shape refers to some forms of housing found in castros, but also to the dreamed futurism, since the past and the future can always be found in the present.

The lower slab offers a flat plateau where, internally, it creates a room with a bedroom, bathroom and a small office with a living room, and on the other hand it generates an outdoor terrace where you can sit among the flowers.

The upper slab is a cover from rain and sun, inside and outside as a large circular arcade. The upper slab is also an extensive landscaped roof, in an act of returning a few square meters of green to the land and with the covering sedum it will help small pollinating insects to enrich the crops.

Then there are the facades, the continuous facade, since you can draw its perimeter in a single pencil gesture. With large vertical openings that reinforce the vertical space that remains between both worlds.

The materiality of the buildings is marked by the use of off-white, in tune with the traditional buildings of the area, and the white is only broken with the carpentry that seeks to create a contrast between the background color and the mobile color, the doors and the windows, which allow entry and exit, are marked in dark brown.

It seeks to reinforce the feeling that the exterior blends with the interior, for which flooring and ceilings will maintain the same texture and tones, which will only be broken with the pieces of furniture and with the interior walls, which seek to generate a warm interior space. and welcoming.

La permacultura se inicia en los años 70s. Se trata de un sistema de principios de diseño agrícola basado en los patrones y las características del ecosistema natural. La palabra permacultura procede de la contracción en inglés de las palabras permanent&culture para referirse a la agricultura como procesos permanentes sostenibles.

Podemos vivir sin hacernos fotos y subirlas a la red, pero no podemos dejar de comer cada día. La agricultura configura y ha configurado nuestros paisajes y sociedades, y en el caso del proyecto del Retiro da Costiña, configura como se ha organizado la implantación de los módulos de estancia temporal en la parcela.

Estamos en Santa Comba, un ayuntamiento interior de Galicia con un relieve llano y suaves ondulaciones. Los pastos de ganadería extensiva se mezclan con el monocultivo de eucalipto, que rodea la parcela en casi todo su perímetro.

La primera acción instintiva que se llevó a cabo en la parcela, fue la de crear una pequeña muralla vegetal perimetral, la pequeña frontera marca una pequeña división de realidades paralelas.

Fuera de la muralla vegetal, no existirán cambios de color en las estaciones, el eucalipto es un árbol que permanece estático durante todo el año. Dentro de la muralla verde, se hará referencia a la otra Galicia de colores cambiantes y estaciones, los árboles autóctonos cadufifolios, las flores, los huertos…

La parcela interiormente se organizó a través de círculos de diferentes tamaños, que generan infinitos recorridos, por los que derivar y aprender sobre los procesos de cultivación de los productos que después se servirán en el Retiro da Costiña. No se busca la línea recta, sino la suavidad y las historias que se generan dentro y fuera de cada círculo.Para las edificaciones, se partió de una doble premisa, por un lado, tendrán un elemento estático al pié de cada una de ellas. Una escalera de piedra que no toca las edificaciones, como un hórreo o como las escaleras anexas a una nave espacial en tierra. Por otro lado, los módulos remitirán al cielo, se posan sobre el suelo pero dejando siempre el viento y los organismos de la parcela por debajo.

Con la acción de separar los módulos del suelo, se consigue interferir menos en las escorrentías naturales del terreno, de suave pendiente que permite vistas del valle. Los módulos se reducen a dos placas, losas o forjados cuya forma remite a algunas formas de viviendas encontradas en castros, pero también al futurismo soñado, y es que el pasado y el futuro siempre se pueden encontrar en el presente.

La losa inferior ofrece una meseta plana donde interiormente crear una estancia con dormitorio, baño y pequeño office con salón, y por otra parte genera una terraza exterior donde poder sentarse en medio de las flores.

La losa superior es una cubrición de la lluvia y el sol, interior y exterior como gran soportal circular. La losa superior es también una cubierta ajardinada extensiva, en un acto de devolver al terreno algunos metros cuadrados verdes y con el sedum tapizante contribuirá a que pequeños insectos polinizadores puedan enriquecer los cultivos.

Después están las fachadas, la fachada continua, ya que puedes dibujarla en un solo gesto de lápiz su perímetro. Con grandes aperturas verticales que refuerzan ese espacio vertical que queda entre ambos mundos.

La materialidad de las edificaciones viene marcada por el uso del color blanco roto, en sintonía con las edificaciones tradicionales de la zona, y solamente se rompe el blanco con las carpinterías que buscan crear contraste entre el color fondo y el color móvil, las puertas y las ventanas, que permiten entrar y salir, se marcan de castaño oscuro.

Se busca reforzar la sensación de que el exterior se mezcle con el interior, para lo cual pavimentos y techos mantendrán la misma textura y tonos, que solamente se romperá con las piezas del mobiliario y con las paredes interiores, que buscan generar un espacio interior cálido y acogedor.
