Apartment in Praça dos Aliados | corp arquitetos

The project’s thesis stems from the incessant quest to improve the housing quality of the apartment. In its original state, the need for a reinterpretation of the typology is evident, from the location of the social and private spaces to the relationship with the surroundings and natural lighting.

By reading the spaces, a fundamental axis is designed for the architecture of the apartment, one that materializes the relationship between the collective and the private, conviviality and peace, light and shadow. This idea reverses the previous logic of the apartment, revitalizing its habitability.

The threshold is constructed through carpentry, which in itself assigns the respective functions to each space. On the one hand, the kitchen, in communion with the living room, fosters a constant duality of living and dining experience. On the other hand, the closets in the bedroom and office, provide the space with the necessary storage while defining it. Due to their ability to define each space, these elements are treated as boundaries, similar to walls.

In contrast, there are loose elements in the space that contribute to its use, from autonomous carpentry in the kitchen to the back cupboard in the living room, to the desk in the office. These elements are related to each other by their materialization in walnut, strongly contributing to the introduction of the exception to the neutrality of spaces.

The project intends to be a synthesis of the lightness of a dwelling that adapts and takes advantage of pre-existing architecture, seeking to elevate it to its maximum spatial potential, through a simple gesture of multiple relationships.
