GS Tennis Court | Victor B. Ortiz | Architecture

Located in the city of Cuiaba, in Mato Grosso - Brazil, the GS Tennis court is an engineering feat that rethinks how curves can be achieved with straight timber beams.
Initially inspired by the sea urchin's radial structure, the design was developed to maximize material efficiency and span.
The sports hall includes a full spa area, changing rooms, and industrial kitchen and lush indoor landscaping using local flora. As architects our goal was to create an innovative structural solution and a sustainable design and construction process, minimizing waste through pre-fabrication and prioritizing natural materials.
The result was a domed timber roof that encloses an area of 2.500m2 and hosts up to 500 spectators during a tennis match and up to 1500 people during an event.
Another aspect of the project that follows most of the firm’s work, is the incorporation of the local flora into the design and brings nature in, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside.
