This particular apartment in the Southern Suburbs, with a total area of ​​165sqm., was until recently, a spacious typical apartment building in the 1990s. A basic design requirement was the remodeling of it’s functional structure, based on the needs and lifestyle of the new owners. At the same time, the main issue was the creation of a new character, mediterranean, with references to the landscape of the Greek Cycladic islands discreetly adapted to the urban environment to which it belongs.

The central synthetic idea was based on an architectural simplicity, with clean, geometric lines, shaped by simple, imaginative and functional constructions, with a common connecting thread, the self-construction. The reorganization of the floor plan of the living spaces of the apartment, through the demolition of selected walls, aimed at softening the boundaries of different uses, achieving the unification of spaces, visually and functionally, creating a common experience through the sequence of movements. At the same time, the uniform diffusion of natural light, contributes to the unification of spaces in turn, allowing to increase the brightness in the apartment as a whole.

The choice of materials follows and co-shapes the synthetic idea. The choice of wooden oak floor throughout the apartment except the bathrooms in combination with the monochrome walls, was an excellent background for the reception of handmade wooden structures in the kitchen and bedroom closets. The thematic curtain with the representation of majestic characters in the kitchen, the linen curtains of earthy colors in the rest of the spaces, the handmade knitted lamps from natural materials, the special, panoramic composition, wallpaper in the dining room, the solid wooden dining room and the special objects of the synthetic idea.

In conclusion, the mentioned architectural manipulations contribute to the creation of a new habitation experience, in a bright, natural, handmade, studied, familiar environment through references from the habitation and the landscape of the Greek Cycladic islands.
