Lying down is free and anything else is architecture. This is how Jorge Wagensberg defined the alteration of the territory caused by architecture. This helps us to protect ourselves from the uncertainty of the weather, but it must also allow us to settle on a place. A house is not only the envelope that protects us from the cold and the sun, but it is the alteration of the ground line to be able to relate to it in a comfortable way.

We are located on the southern slope of Somosierra, in the vicinity of the Lozoya and Jarama rivers, near their confluence. The steep slope of the plot and its optimal orientation towards south invites us to turn our back on the slope and face towards the distant views.

The requirement of a large outdoor space and a preferably separate sports court converts the project into a sequence of retaining walls and terraces to make horizontal platforms possible, between which there are two interior habitable levels. The upper one, more dedicated to the cold seasons, houses the fireplace and is more exposed to the sun, and the lower one, for the summer periods, is sheltered within the ground and opens up to the views and to the pool space protected in all its openings for the shadows cast by the upper floor.

Both levels open towards the valley, but while the upper floor delimits its framed perception towards three different landmarks of the landscape, the lower floor opens in continuity towards the entire horizon.

A third level is on the roof and exposed to the sky. It is occupied by a small soccer field that allows other activities day and night. 

Technical description
The construction manifests itself as a monolithic volume of concrete that emerges on the surface of the hillside. Its walls are made of light insulating plates 14 cm thick with only 4 cm of concrete on the inside and another 4 cm on the outside, formwork with a corrugated sheet. These walls are structural, thanks to a steel mesh in each concrete sheet with transversal connections by means of electro-welded rods. Both faces work together and support both vertical loads and cantilevers without additional reinforcement. The floors are made with the same system using 20cm light insulating plates and 4cm coating on both sides. It is a structure of load-bearing walls. The envelope is therefore especially insulating and with a higher internal thermal inertia than usual.

The openings are protected from sunlight by the shadow cast by the structure itself or by shutters made with the same corrugated sheet that was used to frame the concrete walls.

Yacer es gratis y cualquier otra cosa es arquitectura. Así definía Jorge Wagensberg la alteración del territorio que provoca la arquitectura. Ésta nos ayuda a protegernos de la incertidumbre del clima, pero además debe permitirnos asentarnos sobre un lugar. Una casa no es solo la envolvente que nos protege del frío y del sol, sino es la alteración de la línea del suelo para poder relacionarnos con él de forma confortable.

Nos encontramos en la vertiente meridional de Somosierra, en el entorno de los ríos Lozoya y Jarama, cerca de su confluencia. La pronunciada pendiente de la parcela y su óptima orientación hacia mediodía invita a dar la espalda a la ladera y girarnos hacía las vistas lejanas.

La premisa de un gran espacio al aire libre y una pista deportiva preferentemente separada convierte al proyecto en una secuencia de muros de contención y aterrazados para hacer posibles las plataformas horizontales, entre los cuales hay dos niveles interiores habitables. El superior, más dedicado a las estaciones frías, acoge la chimenea y está más expuesto al sol, y el inferior, para los períodos estivales, está cobijado dentro del terreno y se abre a las vistas y al espacio de la piscina protegido en todas sus aperturas por las sombras arrojadas por la planta superior.

Ambos niveles se abren hacia el valle, pero mientras la planta superior acota su percepción enmarcada hacia tres hitos diferentes del paisaje, la planta inferior se abre en continuidad hacia todo el horizonte.

Un tercer nivel, sobre la cubierta y expuesto al cielo, está ocupado por una pequeña pista de fútbol que permite además otro tipo de actividad tanto de día como de noche.

Breve descripción técnica

La construcción se manifiesta como una geometría monolítica de hormigón que aflora en la superficie de la ladera. Sus muros están realizados por placas ligeras aislantes de 14 cm de espesor con tan solo 4 cm de hormigón proyectado por el interior y otros 4cm por el exterior, encofrado con una chapa grecada. Estos muros son estructurales, gracias a un mallazo de acero en cada hoja de hormigón con conexiones trasversales mediante varillas electrosoldadas. Ambas caras trabajan solidariamente y soportan tanto las cargas verticales como los voladizos sin armadura adicional. Los forjados están realizados con el mismo sistema mediante placas ligeras aislantes de 20cm y recubrimiento en ambas caras de 4cm. Se trata de una estructura de muros portantes y vigas pared muy aligeradas. La envolvente es por ello especialmente aislante y con una inercia térmica interior superior a lo habitual. 

Los huecos están protegidos del soleamiento por la sombra arrojada por la propia estructura o por contraventanas realizadas con la misma chapa grecada que se utilizó para encofrar los muros de hormigón.
