Virgin Izakaya Bar Kharkiv | YODEZEEN Architects
A conceptual space inspired by a traditional Japanese neighborhood’s garden with its inherent authenticity Kharkiv / Ukraine / 2021
This is the third project of the same name designed by Yodezeen, so the challenge for the team was to find a unique meaning for this space. The general style should be associated with izakayas in other Ukrainian cities, but the philosophy of this place needs to be exclusive. This time, the inspiration was the traditional architecture of the Japanese courtyard, with its composition and inhabitants.
In this interior we used brutal materials: raw wood and concrete, metal accents like light fixtures and red netting framing the balcony on the second level. The windows are closed with shutters made of aged wood, which in their shape resemble traditional Japanese screens. They continue the drawing on the five-meter walls as panels. The designers hung minimalistic lighting around the perimeter above the tables, which spotlights exquisite dishes and cocktails. Above the round tables in the center are original models of Virgin Izakaya bar lamps in the form of cages.
