Casa Tejocote is a single-family home located in a semi-urban context from Querétaro, Mexico. It is a project that through its materials and its simple composition represents the vernacular architecture of the region, which seeks to integrate with the semi-desert landscape that surrounds it.

The volumetry was conceived from the premise of giving spaces the greatest possible privacy. Since by regulations of the housing estate it is not allowed to build fences, the house's scheme acts as a wall that surrounds and protects the living spaces. The program was divided into four solid volumes that delimit a large central garden and are linked through a bridge of lighter character. These four modules were intervened with meticulous incisions either to open subtle light entrances; provide views that frame the landscape or integrate the interior with the exterior spaces.

With 650 square meters of construction, Casa Tejocote is distributed on two levels that separate the social areas from the private areas. The ground floor houses a living room, dining room, kitchen, and service spaces, while on the top floor there are three bedrooms and a family room.

All interior spaces have a semi-open character, having the possibility of opening onto an interior patio or garden, under the same idea of inhabiting the house inward with some privacy, without losing contact with the exterior. The central garden plays a fundamental role in the habitability of the house since the modules seek to open up towards it, allowing the family to carry out activities in coexistence with nature. The wild and endemic vegetation of the region surrounds the house and integrates the architecture with the surrounding landscape.

The warmth and simplicity in both the interior and exterior spaces are a constant in the atmosphere of the house. The pigmented concrete in its tepetate color shades gives a more welcoming character to the spaces it surrounds, matching natural light and the landscape. The use of discreet materials causes light and space itself to be the protagonists of the house. However, elementary details such as solid wood in furniture and ironwork; as well as brick floors and pasta mosaics, complement this sensation of serenity that the spaces transmit.

The structure is made up of reinforced concrete elements that shape the main volumes. The thick walls are raised in layers poured every 80 centimeters. This modulation rules the height and modulation of interior spaces, openings, and various details throughout the house. The orthogonal rigidity of the volumes is softened by curved details that cause a more sensitive relationship towards the spatial geometry.

Casa Tejocote es una vivienda unifamiliar ubicada en un contexto semi-urbano de la ciudad de Querétaro, México. Es una obra que a través de sus materiales y su simple composición representa la arquitectura vernácula de la región, la cual busca integrarse con el paisaje semi-desierto que la rodea.

La volumetría se concibió a partir de la premisa de otorgar a los espacios la mayor privacidad posible. Dado que por normativa del fraccionamiento no se permiten construir bardas, el esquema de la casa actúa como una muralla que envuelve y protege los espacios habitables. El programa fue dividido en cuatro volúmenes solidos que delimitan un gran jardín central y se ligan a través de un puente de carácter más ligero. A estos cuatro módulos se les hicieron incisiones meticulosas ya sea para abrir vanos que provocan entradas de luz sutiles; otorgar vistas que enmarcan el paisaje; o integrar el interior con los espacios exteriores.

Con 650 metros cuadrados de construcción, Casa Tejocote se distribuye en dos niveles que separan las áreas sociales de las áreas privadas. La planta baja alberga sala, comedor, cocina y espacios de servicio; mientras que en planta alta se encuentran tres recámaras y una sala familiar.

Todos los espacios interiores tienen un carácter semi-abierto, al contar con la posibilidad de abrirse hacia un patio o jardín interior, bajo la misma idea habitar la vivienda hacia adentro con cierta privacidad, sin perder el contacto con el exterior. El jardín central tiene un papel fundamental en la habitabilidad de la casa, ya que los módulos buscan abrirse hacia él, permitiendo a la familia realizar actividades en convivencia con la naturaleza. La vegetación silvestre y endémica de la región, envuelve a la casa e integra la arquitectura con el paisaje circundante.

La calidez y la sencillez en el espacio tanto interior como exterior son una constante en el ambiente de la casa. El concreto pigmentado en sus tonalidades color tepetate otorgan un carácter acogedor a los espacios que envuelve, haciendo juego con la luz natural y el paisaje. El uso de materiales discretos provoca que la luz y el espacio mismo sean los protagonistas de la casa. Sin embargo, detalles elementales como la madera sólida en muebles y cancelería de herrería; así como pisos de tabique y mosaicos de pasta, complementan esta sensación de serenidad que transmiten los espacios.

La estructura se conforma a partir de elementos de concreto armado que componen los volúmenes principales. Los gruesos muros se levantan en capas vertidas cada 80 centímetros. Esta modulación rige la altura y modulación de entrepisos, vanos y diversos detalles a lo largo de la casa. La rigidez ortogonal de los volúmenes se suaviza con detalles curvos que provocan una relación más sensible hacia la geometría espacial.
