Located in the Algarve, south of Portugal, this Mima House Portimão house was built as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city. With its almost entirely glazed façades, the interior of the house allows endless views of the pine trees that surround the grounds, while the slatted façade edges (ensuring privacy to the bathrooms) reinforce the wooden character of the house and enhance its integration into the natural landscape.

With an elegant regular shape extending over a single storey, this 160 square metre house respects the usual 1.60m grid common to all Mima houses, proving once again that the basic system used by Mimahousing allows the design of houses substantially different from each other in terms of character, despite the constant regularity of the plans and the simplicity of the houses' shapes.

This house is particularly interesting for the symmetry of its plan. Raised off the ground by 1.20m, revealing its wooden foundations and structure, the core of the house seizes the ground via a wide wooden staircase. The kitchen and living area are in the centre of the house, with a 1.60m grid underlined in the wooden ceiling, and the bedrooms are on the opposite ledges, two on each side, in a symmetrical layout.

The frame of the house is built from Nordic pine and has been constructed with interlocking joinery. The timber frames are in kambala wood. The extensive corner shutters are in thermally treated pine wood. The exteriors are detailed in zinc; the interior surfaces are finished in pine and oak wood and the walls are plastered with refined white stucco.
