Selinus House | Studio 4e

Selinus House dominates one of the most beautiful coastlines in western Sicily. The project operates on an existing property, the structure of which had already been built, and is the result of an approach in tune with the customer's requests, careful to every detail, in which architecture and landscape are perfectly integrated.

Thanks to its location, it dominates the attractive Sicilian countryside from above. From here, it's possible appreciate a view of the natural environment that ranges from hillsides cultivated with vineyards and olive groves, and slopes gently down to the green Mediterranean scrub and the sea bay below, subject to careful landscape protection.

Design research that takes inspiration from the continuous relationship with nature and the landscape, and through landscape design intervention, becomes the trat-d'union that seamlessly connects the natural environment with the intimacy of the interior spaces.

The entrance to the villa is through a pathway in the greenery that snakes along the entire perimeter of the house and, thanks to the absence of visual barriers on the main front, leads the visitor to enjoy a panoramic view that sweeps along the coast to the horizon.

The curved swimming pool forms the end point of this path and is designed so that the water level creates an infinite surface effect on the landscape, merging with the sea view. The stone steps of the sun terrace, emphasize this connection with the natural space, continuing in perspective the optical effect of the shoreline profile below.

On the lower floor, the villa consists of a shaded basement with large glass walls that ensure visual continuity with the outdoor landscape. On the ground floor, an articulated open space is divided into a fluid succession of rooms that include living, dining, and an open kitchen. Wide outdoor spaces allow enjoyment in the summer season of the external environments and are a natural extension of the living area.

On the upper floor, which is reached by two staircases covered in white marble and light oak wood, are the bedrooms with a more intimate and cozy character, interconnected by a single terrace. The bathrooms of the house are distinguished by their elegance, which plays a refined balance in the combination of fine marble, resins, and accessories of refined design.

Interesting and refined details define the interiors and the various custom-designed and made furniture.

Selinus House domina una delle coste più belle della Sicilia occidentale. Il progetto interviene su un immobile esistente, la cui struttura era già stata realizzata, ed  è frutto di un’impostazione in sintonia con le richieste della committenza, attenta ad ogni dettaglio, in cui si integrano perfettamente architettura e paesaggio.                                                                                           

Grazie alla sua posizione, domina dall’alto la suggestiva campagna siciliana. Da qui si apprezza una vista dell’ambiente naturale che spazia dalle colline coltivate a vigneti e uliveti, e degrada dolcemente fino al verde della macchia mediterranea e alla baia marina sottostante, sottoposte ad una attenta tutela paesaggistica.                                                                                                       

Una ricerca progettuale che trae ispirazione dal rapporto continuo con la natura e il paesaggio e che attraverso l’intervento di landscape design, diventa il trat-d’union che collega, senza soluzione di continuità, l’ambiente naturale con l’intimità degli spazi interni.                         

L’accesso alla villa avviene tramite un percorso nel verde che si snoda lungo tutto il perimetro dell’abitazione e grazie all’assenza di barriere visive sul fronte principale, conduce il visitatore a godere di una vista panoramica che spazia lungo la costa fino all’orizzonte.                                   

La piscina, dalla forma curvilinea, costituisce il punto di arrivo di questo percorso, ed è progettata in modo che il livello dell'acqua crei un effetto di superficie infinito sul paesaggio, fondendosi con la vista del mare. I gradini in pietra della terrazza solarium, accentuano questo collegamento con lo spazio naturale, continuando prospetticamente l’effetto ottico del profilo della battigia sottostante.                                                                                                                            

La villa è costituita al piano inferiore da un basamento ombreggiato con grandi pareti vetrate che assicurano la continuità visiva con il paesaggio esterno. A piano terra un articolato open space è suddiviso  in una fluida successione di ambienti che includono soggiorno, pranzo e una cucina a vista. Ampi spazi outdoor permettono di godere nella stagione estiva degli ambienti esterni e costituiscono la naturale estensione della zona living.                                                          

Al piano superiore,raggiungibile da due scale rivestite in marmo bianco e legno di rovere chiaro, si trovano le camere da letto dal carattere più intimo e accogliente, tra loro collegate da un unico terrazzo. I bagni dell’abitazione si caratterizzano per la loro eleganza, in cui gioca un equilibrio raffinato l’abbinamento di marmi pregiati, resine e accessori dal design ricercato.
