McCray-Thorkildsen Estate (1914) , also known as Briarcliff Manor is a two-and-a-half-story, single-family estate residence designed in the Craftsman/Chalet style with a grade-level basement at the rear and a “pop up” half story.

Approximately 6,692 square feet with a generally rectangular floor plan, the residence is clad in
wood shingle exterior siding, has a built-up low-pitched gabled roof that appears flat with broad,
overhanging eaves, exposed wood rafters, and two chimneys clad in brick veneer.

Oil baron Louis AllanMcCray commissioned architect Edward Butler to design Briarcliff Manor, a detached two-story garage east of Briarcliff Manor, and landscaping consisting
of stone steps and a Japanese garden at his estate (estate residence).

Embodying the distinctive characteristics of the Craftsman/Chalet style; and as a rare and excellent example of a substantial, early 20th century Craftsman single family residence in Hollywood.
