Sexy Assemblage — The Danger and Seduction in Juxtaposing Differences that May Clash

Sexy Assemblage displays a heterogeneous approach to designing public spaces, where playfulness, actions, and communities together generate the time and space for experimenting with new forms of collective aggregation. As architects, orizzontale ask: how can one bring together skills, people, places, materials, stories, and desires that are quite different and distant? orizzontale suggest various tools, both formal and informal, that contribute to the creation of the assemblage, shaping multiple ‘open systems’ instead of defining isolated formal solutions.
Starting from a dialogue between different orizzontale projects, Sexy Assemblage explores those tools when applied in different contexts, scales, and spaces. For the installation in The Laboratory of the Future, a visual landscape presents a general approach to public space, collecting ideas, and texts. At the same time, the space itself becomes a form of collective aggregation, physically building a place of encounter both formal and informal for Biennale Architettura 2023.

Sexy Assemblage presenta un approccio eterogeneo alla progettazione di spazi pubblici, dove giocosità, azioni e comunità generano insieme il tempo e lo spazio per sperimentare nuove forme di aggregazione collettiva. Come studio di architettura, orizzontale si chiede: come possiamo coniugare competenze, persone, luoghi, materiali, storie e desideri così diversi e distanti? Lo studio propone vari strumenti, sia formali che informali, che contribuiscono alla creazione dell’assemblaggio, dando forma a molteplici ‘sistemi aperti’ invece di definire soluzioni formali isolate.
A partire da un dialogo tra diversi progetti di orizzontale, Sexy Assemblage esplora questi strumenti nella loro applicazione in contesti, scale e spazi diversi. Per l’installazione all’interno di The Laboratory of the Future, un paesaggio visivo introduce un approccio generale allo spazio pubblico, raccogliendo idee e testi. Al contempo, lo spazio stesso diventa una forma di aggregazione collettiva, costruendo fisicamente un luogo di incontro sia formale che informale.
