Grade II Listed Villa | Mark Zudini
A substantial rear extension was added to the existing fabric of this stunning neoclassical Grade II villas dating 1821. London / United Kingdom / 2023
The project began with the desire of the client to improve and enlarge their kitchen and living area so that they could entertain family and friends.
The main brief included a new kitchen, living and dining room all in an enlarged open space to the rear of this early 18th neoclassical villa.
As the house is Grade II Listed the planner assessed very carefully all the proposals and details. The design approach was to maximise daylight and view and at the same time make a considered intervention to safeguard the architectural merits of the house and the neighbours.
A simple palette of polished concrete floor, oak joinery and carrara marble create a bold and timeless feeling to the open space. A tv bespoke unit acts as a divider between kitchen and dining room, whilst a suspended oak library creates a sense of presence and lightness to the space.
Two very large walk on glass roofs were added and these help define the uses of the space. The opening towards the garden is facilitated by 3 large sliding doors.
The worktop of the previous kitchen and marble off cuts have been recycled to create some tables and a console.
The overall sense of the space is that of tranquillity and serenity.
