Echoes, 50 years of iMaestri | Patricia Urquiola

For the 50th anniversary of the Cassina iMaestri Collection, the company presents ‘Echoes, 50 years of iMaestri’, curated by art director Patricia Urquiola with Federica Sala, on show at Palazzo Broggi from the 17th to the 21st of April 2023.

In a modern and industrial setting inside this historical building in the Cordusio area of Milan, the unique method that Cassina has established over the years to edit the great classics, through the promotion of authenticity and design culture, is recounted. A celebration of the past with a new vision for the future that anticipates the book Echoes, edited by Ivan Mietton and published by Rizzoli, to be released this autumn.

This anniversary represents an opportunity for Cassina to illustrate in a current-day perspective the intense research carried out that, over the last 50 years, has led the company to industrially develop the furniture designed by the great architects of the Modern Movement.

The Cassina iMaestri Collection was officially presented in 1973 with the inclusion of models by Gerrit T. Rietveld and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. For some time, the company had already begun analysing and selecting the most significant pieces of furniture by leading figures in the Modern Movement. This process began in 1964 with the acquisition of the exclusive worldwide rights for the serial production of the first four models designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand and, over the years, the collection has brought together some of the most iconic furniture of the 20th Century.

Work carried out with the utmost respect for authenticity, thanks to the close collaboration with the foundations and heirs of the maestri, that also brings to light previously unreleased designs that had never been industrially produced before, making this creative universe known to a wider public.

In occasione del 50° anniversario della Collezione Cassina iMaestri, l’azienda presenta ‘Echoes, 50 years of iMaestri’, curata dall’art director Patricia Urquiola con Federica Sala, in mostra presso Palazzo Broggi dal 17 al 21 aprile 2023.

All’interno dello storico palazzo milanese nella zona di Cordusio, in un allestimento moderno e industriale, viene raccontato il metodo unico che Cassina ha stabilito negli anni per editare i grandi classici attraverso la valorizzazione dell’autenticità e della cultura del design. Una celebrazione del passato con una nuova visione rivolta al futuro, che anticipa il libro Echoes, a cura di Ivan Mietton e pubblicato da Rizzoli, in uscita questo autunno.

Questa ricorrenza rappresenta per Cassina un’occasione per raccontare in chiave attuale il lungo lavoro di ricerca che in questi 50 anni ha portato l’azienda a sviluppare industrialmente gli arredi progettati dai grandi architetti del Movimento Moderno. 

La Collezione Cassina iMaestri fu ufficialmente presentata nel 1973 con l’inserimento dei modelli di Gerrit T. Rietveld e Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Da tempo, l’azienda aveva avviato un lavoro di analisi e selezione dei mobili più significativi dei protagonisti del Movimento Moderno. Questo processo è iniziato nel 1964 con l’acquisizione dei diritti esclusivi mondiali per la produzione seriale dei primi quattro modelli disegnati da Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret e Charlotte Perriand e, negli anni, la collezione ha riunito alcuni degli arredi più iconici del XX Secolo. 

Un lavoro svolto nel pieno rispetto dell’autenticità, grazie alla stretta collaborazione con le fondazioni e gli eredi dei maestri, che permette di portare alla luce anche progetti sconosciuti, mai prodotti a livello industriale, per far conoscere questo universo creativo a un pubblico sempre più ampio.
