A continuous contrast between dark and light: the beauty of one is defined by the absence of the other.

The interior design of this house was commissioned by a professional couple, an instrumentalist and an expert in Italian artisanal perfumes. Their working experiences share an instinctive propensity for experimentation that they want to express it at home as well: a space with bold tones that reflects their lifestyle without compromises.
The project takes inspiration from the interiors of a historic Milanese nightclub of the 1970s, where the unconventional use of steel sheets was an innovation for the time. The effect of this material convinced the clients from the beginning, both for its reference to the musical panorama and for its ability to manifest itself with shades of very varied colors and shapes.
In fact, the black iron walls are characterized by deep chromatic shades that refer to artistic interpretations and invite to concentrate on the beauty of darkness. The color white, in its perfection, highlights the boundary and balances the roughness of the black materials.
The particularly expressive steel was specifically selected and treated to preserve the original colors and oxidation of the rolling process. It has been folded and used to cover walls, doors and niches of the living room. Overlapping the sheets, some slots have been created to house linear lights which bring out the natural imperfections of the raw material.
The project reveals the frenetic clients’ life that needs wide white spaces to appreciate the darkness of the deep personal corners.
The black shiny floor becomes the perfect background for the Carrara marble table designed for this project, as well as the white sofa of the living room.

Un continuo contrasto tra chiaro e scuro: la bellezza dell’uno è definita dalla temporanea assenza dell’altro.
Il progetto di interni di questa abitazione è stato commissionato da una coppia di professionisti, uno strumentista ed una esperta di profumi artigianali italiani. Le loro esperienze professionali sono accomunate da un’istintiva propensione alla sperimentazione tanto da voler esprimere questa attitudine anche a casa: uno spazio dati toni decisi che rispecchiasse il loro stile di vita senza compromessi.
Il progetto prende ispirazione dagli arredi interni di uno storico locale notturno milanese famoso negli anni ’70, i cui interni avevano fatto scalpore per l’utilizzo non convenzionale delle lamiere di acciaio. L’effetto di questo materiale ha convinto fin dall’inizio i committenti sia per il richiamo al panorama musicale sia per la sua capacità di manifestarsi con sfumature dai colori e forme molto variegate.
Infatti, l’acciaio nero offre profonde sfumature cromatiche che rimandano ad interpretazioni artistiche, quasi un invito a perdersi nella bellezza dell’oscurità. Il bianco invece funge da confine, equilibra e si manifesta in tutta la sua perfezione.
L’acciaio particolarmente espressivo delle pareti è stato selezionato specificatamente e trattato per mantenere l’effetto cromatico della laminazione e relativa ossidazione. È stato poi piegato ed utilizzato per rivestire pareti, porte e nicchie del soggiorno. Nelle sovrapposizioni delle lamiere sono state ricavate alcune fessure per l’alloggiamento di illuminazioni lineari che fanno risaltare le imperfezioni naturali del materiale crudo.
Così è stata fotografata la vita frenetica dei committenti che necessita di ampi spazi chiari per poter apprezzare senza timori gli angoli bui personalissimi e profondi.
Il pavimento in legno nero lucido fa da sfondo al tavolo in marmo di Carrara disegnato dallo studio esclusivamente per questo progetto come il divano in tessuto bianco con struttura in acciaio grezzo.
