The wheelchair `FOR` | Noriyuki Otsuka
Tokyo / Japan / 2002
When my father-in-law’s illness required him to begin receiving nursing care. He is no longer able to walk on his own, and cannot use his right arm. His speech has also become impaired, making around-the-clock nursing care a must. He needs a wheelchair to get around, but there are very few wheelchair models on the market designed for nursing care patients. The ones that are available prove difficult to sit in comfortably for extended periods of time. I approached the changes in the home environment in a positive frame of mind, and designed a wheelchair to enable both those being cared for and those providing the care to share the same feelings in their lifestyle setting. Though this wheelchair is still at the prototype stage, I plan to devote the time necessary to bring the concept to completion.
