Ichi Station Milan | Masquespacio

Masquespacio presents the latest project it designed in Milan for sushi take away chain Ichi Station.

Previously Ichi’s founder Yango Zhang developed already a few spaces for his sushi take away chain, although with this new opening he wanted to give major importance to the dine-in expe-rience. The identity previously developed for Ichi’s spaces was inspired by a travel and a station. Thus, hereby Masquespacio proposed to evolve with that identity to a more conceptual one, maintaining its essence, but getting away from literal and tradi-tional travel representations. For this, the Spanish design studio proposed a travel to the future through light.

“With this more futuristic look we had the opportunity to repre-sent the innovative sushi that is showcased on Ichi’s full of fla-vors and colors menu, developed by Yango, in collaboration with chef Haruo Ichikawa.”, comments Masquespacio’s creative direc-tor Ana Hernández.

To be highlight firstly is the fact that the project is located in a building from the beginning of the past century in an historical street of Milan. The previous design intervention seemed to repre-sent arches and vaults, very adapted to the style of the time the building was constructed, although the decision was taken to break with those traditional elements, converting the space in a contemporary concept and our own capsule to travel into time.

Thus, Ichi is inspired in the 90s and represents a travel through light that transports you to know it's different and eclectic flavors, while dining in a space ship of the future.

As in all Masquespacio’s projects, a personal language was creat-ed to generate a personalized identity with custom-made furni-ture. A detail to be highlighted here are the glass tables with light-ing inside that help customers to have a unique dining experi-ence.

Concerning the material selection, the idea was to use simple and pure materials like glass and microcement to create homogeneous surfaces that remind us to the space ship that is aiming to be pre-sented.

The most standing out element is although visible at the second part of the restaurant, where the ceiling has been lowered at the maximum possible level and where a half sphere makes you enter a tunnel to the future in which you can see a live performance of Ichi’s sushi chefs.

As last to be highlighted is the use of an indirect led lighting sys-tem with RGB colors that could transform the atmosphere de-pending on the time of the day.

Masquespacio presenta el último proyecto que ha diseñado en Milán para la cadena de sushi para llevar Ichi Station.

Previamente Yango Zhang, fundador de Ichi había ya realizado varios espacios para su cadena de sushi para llevar, no obstante, con esta nueva apertura quiso dar mayor importancia a la parte del restaurante con el fin de atraer clientes que quieren comer en el espacio mismo. La identidad previa de los espacios se inspiraba en un viaje y una estación. Por lo tanto, Masquespacio propuso evolucionar con esta imagen a una más conceptual, manteniendo su esencia, pero alejándose de su traducción literal de representar un viaje. Por eso Masquespacio decidió proponer un viaje del fu-turo a través de la luz.

“Con este look más futurista también se nos dio la oportunidad de representar el sushi innovador que se presenta en la carta de Ichi realizada por Yango en colaboración con el chef Haruo Ichi-kawa, llena de sabores y colores.”, comenta Ana Hernández, di-rectora creativa de Masquespacio.

Cabe destacar en primer instante que el proyecto se encuentra en un edificio de principios de siglo pasado en una calle emblemática de Milán. La actuación previa intentó representar arcos y bóvedas, muy adaptada al estilo de la época, no obstante, se decidió rom-per con estos elementos más tradicionales, convirtiendo el espa-cio en un concepto contemporáneo y nuestra propia cápsula de viaje en el tiempo.

Así Ichi está inspirado en los 90 y nos representa un viaje a través de la luz que nos transporta a conocer sus diferentes sabores va-riados y eclécticos, mientras estamos cenando en una nave espa-cial del futuro.

Como en todos los proyectos de Masquespacio, se ha creado un lenguaje propio para genera una identidad personalizada con mo-biliario hecho a medida. Un detalle a destacar aquí son las mesas iluminadas con cristal que nos ayudan a tener una experiencia diferente en la mesa al comer.

Por otra parte, los materiales utilizados son muy simples y puros desde cristal hasta microcemento con el fin de crear unas superfi-cies homogéneas que nos recuerdan a esa nave espacial qué se quiere representar.

Como elemento más destacado en la segunda parte del restau-rante se ha bajado el techo lo máximo posible y se recrea una se-miesfera que te hace entrar en un túnel hacia el futuro en el que puedes ver el showcooking de los sushi chefs de Ichi.

Por último, comentar que se ha utilizado un sistema de luz led indirecta RGB que puede transformar la atmósfera del local según el momento del día.
