Villa Domes | Maxim Calujac

Villa Domes is located near Chisinau, Moldova. Designed for a family of 4 people, provides space for three functional areas: leisure, green and common area. The leisure area includes a terrace, a pool and a firepit. Due to the large glass walls the outdoors is connected visually with the living room. The garden offers shade during summer time and it is transformed into a playground area for the kids. The greenery becomes a part of the bedroom which gives to it the feeling of  being closer to nature, as  if it is a part of the interior, and keeps its intimacy far away from the neighbor's eyes.

The entrance represents the main accent of the house.  The plasticity of the volume of the concrete portal, in addition with aesthetic appearance, has a constructive function - it provides an extra rigidity to the whole structure, simplifying the metal framing of the house. The sculptural form of the concrete highlights its expressivity of the line, using the laconicity of the “Corten” facade.  The great importance of the volumetric-spatial composition is given to the truncated pyramidal shape of the internal “Dome’s”.  Used as skylights, these “Dome’s” are revealed as rhythmic outdoor structures with monolithic forms. In the interior they create an aerial and plenty of light space. The indoor walls are filled in wood panels. Besides the cozy atmosphere, the contrast between the coldness of glass walls and wood offers the feeling of massiveness to the whole internal space.

Elaborated by the architect, all the furniture is “dissolving” throughout the interior due to the use of the same material as the wooden walls. The paintings and sculptures are the accents that are giving the dynamics and the contrasts of the house’s calmness.

The house plan was organized in such a way that the corridors are totally avoided, and the living room is the interconnection of all other rooms.

The grid of metallic framed structure performs the right arrangement of the rooms, the technical area is separated from the main livable area such as kitchen, living room and bedrooms. Utility area is situated in the proximity of the main entrance into the house plot, the sleeping area is oriented into the garden to the southeast.

Despite the small area of the site, the villa gives the sense of nature connection - like a “living” canvas framed into massive glazed windows. This building contrasts with the surrounding area, and the materials such as - corten, wood, concrete - are changing and mature over time.

The smooth lines of the architectural idea, the bond between laconic interior space and easiness of the landscape,  are organically integrating this villa into the natural environment and act as the basis of human interaction with the space and the building.

Villa Domes está ubicada cerca de Chisinau en Moldavia. Diseñada por una familia de cuatro personas, ofrece un espacio de tres zonas funcionales: ocio, zona verde y zona común. La zona de ocio incluye una terraza, una piscina y un pozo de fuego. Gracias a las grandes ventanas, el exterior está conectado visualmente con el salón. La zona verde del jardín ofrece sombra en verano y se transforma en una zona de juegos para los niños. La vegetación se convierte en parte del dormitorio, lo que da la sensación de estar más cerca de la naturaleza, como si formara parte del interior, y mantiene su intimidad lejos de las miradas pesadas.

La entrada representa el acento principal de la casa.  La plasticidad del volumen del portal de hormigón, además de apariencia estética, tiene una función constructiva - ofrece una extra rigidez para toda la estructura, simplificando el entramado metálico de la casa. La forma escultórica del hormigón resalta la expresividad de la línea, aprovechando de la laconicidad de fachada "Corten".  La gran importancia de la composición volumétrico-espacial viene presentada por la forma piramidal truncada de las "Cúpulas" interiores.  Utilizadas como claraboyas, estas "Cúpulas" se revelan como estructuras rítmicas exteriorizadas de formas monolíticas. En el interior crean un espacio aéreo y lleno de luz. Las paredes interiores están rellenas con paneles de madera. Además del ambiente acogedor, el contraste entre la frialdad de muros acristalados y la madera ofrece la sensación de masividad en todo el espacio interior.

Elaborado por el arquitecto, todo el mobiliario se "disuelve" en el interior gracias al uso del mismo material que las paredes, madera. Los cuadros y las esculturas son los acentos que dan el dinamismo y los contrastes de tranquilidad a la casa.

El plano de la casa se organizó de tal manera que los pasillos deberían evitarse, y el salón sería la zona de interconexión de todas las estancias.

La rejilla de estructura metálica realiza la posición correcta de las habitaciones, la zona técnica está separada de la zona habitable principal, así como la cocina, el salón y los dormitorios. La área de servicio está situada cerca de la entrada principal, a la parcela.  La zona de dormitorios está orientada hacia el jardín, al sureste.

A pesar de la reducida superficie de parcela, la villa transmite una sensación de conexión con la naturaleza, como un lienzo "vivo" enmarcado en enormes ventanales acristalados. Este edificio contrasta con el entorno, y los materiales -corten, madera, hormigón- se van cambiando y madurando con el tiempo.

Las suaves líneas de la idea arquitectónica, el vínculo entre el lacónico espacio interior y la facilidad del paisaje, están integrando orgánicamente esta villa en el entorno natural y actúan como base de la interacción humana con el espacio y el edificio.
