Synopsis House of Chã

In the former kitchen space of the family's oven and wine press, there is a need to readapt it into a living space. The central elements such as the fireplace in the wood stove, the iron bathtub, the central wall built in stone/tuff blocks are maintained, as well as spaces with existing infrastructure, which are used for a new kitchen and new sanitary installation.

In view of the irregularities of the walls, the finishing of the existing masonry walls was plastered to the coast of the spoon and the stone/tuff wall was cleaned, with reconstituted joints and finishing with water repellent treatment.

All wall planes to be built again were raised to a height of 2.40 m, not touching the ceiling structure, which was maintained with the existing exposed wood, on which the structural elements were applied, duly insulated and waterproofed over clean tiles and some replaced. The idea would be to take advantage of the entire space, resorting to the minimum of demolitions, alterations, but giving a refresh by introducing a clean and stripped environment, where wood, wooden logs, pottery and neutral colors would show objects designed and built in a handcrafted way, inspired by the illustrations of AnnaC.

Much of this space would report the image of ancestral grandparents in the life of this space.
